youtube apps are coming by bucket-loads nowadays, huh

but this is clearly the best one, and the fact that he ported ffmpeg to Symbian is something! The auto-rotation is pretty well implemented and the volume indicator while in fullscreen is nice.

Downloaded and installed the N95-accelerometer supporting version. No dice.

App opens, searches, (or gets a list of favorites etc.) perfectly smooth. Everything nice and dandy. As soon as I try and playu it though the little spinner goes forever, usually ending in a network (-302) error. Often times when I leave this screen the application crashes.

Tried ~10 times; not one worked. Once or twice the timer showed up (eg: 0:00/3:05) however immediatly after it popped up "Unsupported Format".

😞

I.... spoke to soon. On the 11th try, after about a minute of spinner, video started. Meh. I'm in a 3G area where download speeds are usually ~50KBps; Video started playing and it was already 80% downloaded.

I'm scratching my head.

does it require flash 3 to be installed?

But i was wondering is there any way to get it to work over 2.5g i live in the the U .S.A and I'm using t-mobile so you guys know it's a little slow other than that via wlan it's the best ..

its doesnt work for me. that spinning thing just keeps on spinning and i then i got like "error 303" or something

I've just installed the app. Works good. And the screen automatically rotating is great.

Does the non-N95 version work on the N95?

Reason I ask is that I think it's a bad idea for developers to be adding "auto rotate" to their products when such things should and will be catered for either by RotateMe or hopefully by the firmware itself in the near future (hint to Nokia 😉 ).

The poor phone, and probably many users, are going to get well confused with multiple applications fighting to rotate the screen (especially if they don't respect what the others are set to do).

FYI: i just sent the developer the follwing comments via email, so that you don't have to:

"i have just a few points that you may want to add to the "wish list":
- i dont known if this is prossible, but it would be brilliant if i could check the new videos in my "subscriptions" in youtube. this would need the applicaton to logon with my youtube username/password, which could be set in the "settings"
- OR (if the above is not possible): to be able to add a "user" to the favourites, so that i can check the new videos of my favourite users with one click in the favourites! 😃 (or both)
- when saving a video, it would be cool to already put the title of the video as the suggested file name (but still editable, of course)
- although the auto-rotate is/works brilliantly (!!!), it may make sense for certain users/configurations if it could be disabled/enabled in the settings

bugs/missing:
- when changing the settings, they often are not saved/remembered (especially the "start video" setting always stays at "manual"😉
- sometimes specific videos wil not start loading at all, or an error message appears (file not supported or so). this might be already on your list."

I'm sorry I tried to like it, the app is polished and well written, but even on a full bar 3.5g signal I'm still getting stuttering, the files are freakin huge and will bust even generous data plans, M.vtap is far better.

I've just installed the app on N95. Works great. And the screen automatically rotating is tops.

When there is an embedded flash object (for example YouTube-video) on a web page, it's possible to launch it with "Viewer" application. Flash-content is mapped to FlashLite 2.x -Viewer by default. If I map flash content to be played with emTube (with Y-Tasks filetypes plugin), it downloads swf-file and launches emTube but doesn't load the video...

Is there anything that could be done to get a semi automatic YouTube player?

The reason for this is that the .swf is a player for the flash video, Could you not install Flashlite 3 standalone from adobe, then map flash content to that?

It doesn't work well for me on the E90. The play-back is really jerky.

m.vtap.com is still the best solution for streaming videos as far as I am concerned.

Does it need Flash 3 installed or not?

Is this supposed to work "out of the box" on pretty much any 3rd Edition phone? Does not work on my N75. 😞 Keep getting error messages when trying to view a video.

This may help for those having problems. On my first install it wouldn't play many videos with it just showing the circular loading logo forever. I uninstalled the app and then reinstalled and everything is working perfectly now.

Cool app! Works fine over WiFi on my N95-3, but I get "error 303" over HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE... Tried uninstalling and reinstalling - no difference!

works perfect on my e61i. i was wondering why some say m.vtap.com can be the best when it doesn't even work on my phone? is that for specific model of phones only?

It looks like I'm in the minority, as it won't even install on my N95. All I get is Update Error!

The application works fine on my E51, and the video playback looks ok. The only problem is that the audio playback is very broken up.

Does anyone have the vis working clearly on e62?, What did u do to make this happen?..Thanks

I spoke too soon. After some more testing I've discovered that the streaming playback is fine on some clips, while on others I have to download the whole clip for it to run smoothly.

No, it's not for specific models only. I used to own an E61i where m.vtap.com worked just fine as well. Here's a small illustrated guide I put together:

Firstly, open RealPlayer and go to Settings (mine is in Norwegian, but you should be able to understand it anyway...):

Here you can see that my standard access-point in RealPlayer is my home W-LAN connection, simply named "Home":

Open up you Browser and go to:

Now, it is very important that you use the same access-point in your Browser:

Then you can search for whatever clip you want to see:

And then select "High" (presuming you are using W-LAN (Wi-Fi):

And then RealPlayer will open automatically and start streaming the video.

I hope this was of some help for those of you who have problems using m.vtap.com. 😊

This program works so well on my E90! Its unbelievable... Kudos to the developer. I would suggest that he translate the Paypal page to English so that people can donate. Donate people! This is a great app for y'alls smartphones. 😊
