A Christmas MegaGame - Lament Island

It's possibly the biggest and best game ever created for S60, has texture-mapped 3D surfaces, innovative puzzles and gameplay, a fabulous soundtrack and it's exclusively available for all S60 smartphones, of any vintage. It's Lament Island, and it's reviewed in detail here by our very own Krisse, who awards it a coveted AAS MegaGame award. Highly recommended.

Looks interesting, though I would like to know if the S60 V1 & V2 copy of the games is optimized (or downscaled compared to S60 V3) for this older S60 platform, seeing as these phones have slower CPU's,less RAM,lower resolution screens & so forth.

By the way, anyone interested in knowing more about the making of Lament Island should check out this interview with the developers on n-world.pl, which was done last Spring:

hargs48, I don't have an S60 1st/2nd device so I can't say exactly what would be removed, but I should imagine the lower screen resolution would help reduce the load on the processor.

Having said that, the S60 1st/2nd devices were still fairly powerful. They were good enough to do PlayStation ports such as Tomb Raider or Colin Mcrae on the N-Gage, which was an S60 1st Edition device. The main reason we didn't see many of those games on S60 1st/2nd was because they were so expensive to do.

This game is really awesome. This is console quality stuff on a mobile phone. And the best part of the game, according to me, is its soundtrack. This is the best soundtrack I've ever heard in a non-music video game. And the quick save option is handy and helps a lot. But there is only one problem with the game, I think. Once you finish the game, you know everything, the next time you play, it becomes too easy. However, it has got 4 different endings, so, this problem is a bit less than other games in the same genre, like in Atlantis Redux. An absolute CLASSIC.

Sandy, totally agree, it's a great game and the music is especially wonderful, definitely the best ever in a phone game.

Nokia really should get this developer working on the Next Gen N-Gage platform. If you read the interview link earlier in this thread, the developer even talks about how enthusiastic they are about the platform's concept. They'd definitely do an N-Gage game if Nokia asked them to.

But there is only one problem with the game, I think. Once you finish the game, you know everything, the next time you play, it becomes too easy.

Well, that's is a general flaw with all puzzle-based games really, once you can solve the puzzles there's not much to make you come back.

However, there's enough gameplay in Lament Island to keep players going for quite a while, it's darn good value for 14 euros.

Yeah, totally agree with you. Getting Simlife on N-Gage will surely enrich N-Gage. They are really good. And from the interview excerpts, I can't wait for their next game Speed China 3D.
And yes, this type of game gets KNOWN after playing once, but still, this game is of different variety. It has got 4 endings (yeah, console-type), and hence certainly makes a gamer hooked on for a longer time. Nice review, BTW. This game deserves a Mega Game award.

i have already played this game and its perfect on my n95 8gb!!!!
