Fastxt and Orange GPRS — Nokia 7650 — All About Symbian Forum Archive

I have installed Fastxt onto my 7650 and have been happily using it.

The GPRS access point is named Fastxt Orange.

I have the Orange GPRS Wap access pack which is known as Orange GPRS. This as I understand it only gives you WAP access.

I can use IM+ on the Fastxt access point as well as the actual Fastxt program.

I spoke to Orange thinking that I have activated standard GPRS on my handset but they say no I only have WAP GPRS.

My question is does Fastxt GPRS use the standard Orange GPRS settings or have I totally missed the point on the access points? 😮)

Go to Settings --> Connection Settings --> Access Points

Highlight FastTxt Orange and choose Options --> Edit

Look at the access point name, this should look somthing like a URL, this is what they call an APN and is the method of connection to the GPRS network on Orange (as with the other carriers).

Now do the same for your Orange GPRS access point, the APN is probably the same.

Basically the access point holds connection information on how and where to conenct to the GPRS network. Orange may have many different APN's and hence you could setup different access points to access these different services.

If Orange produce their own IM service in the future they are likely to point it to a different APN.

Fastxt uses Orange GPRS Internet as opposed to WAP. They have started working their way through all accounts currently using GPRS data and enabing both types.

You'd be well advised to sign up to a bundle, it'll save you a lot. Wait until the 1st Feb when prices will drop by a hell of a lot.

So the Orange GPRS thing for �4 is only Orange WAP?

1st if Feb, is this Orange UK only or all networks?

The �4 access pack is unlimited WAP. Other GPRS bundles are WEB.

Orange only. Others *should* drop prices within a few weeks.
