E90: Looking for Web-Browser that will enable attachments/files downloads

6 replies · 10,298 views · Started 07 February 2008

I am considering buying an E90.
I planned to use it similarily to lap-top, but much smaller
But then encounted some issues,
most of them regarding software features.

One issue when I run test-case on the E90
at the demonstration room, is that
the original web-browser is not capable
of downloading attachments from the GMAIL
html GUI, into the hard-disk.

I read with interest the E90 review of Steve Litchfield regarding working with the
web,
(http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/reviews/item/Nokia_E90-Web_and_Work.php)
and got the impression that only files that are recognized by some application
on the E90, can be downloaded (in my test-case, it did not download simple
text file!)

I am looking for a web-browser that will enable me to download
ANY attachment/file/link with ANY format (including those that are
not recognaizable by the e90 application/s software)
to the E90 hard-disk and/or memory-card.

Any hints?
I heard some rumors that Opera web-browser may solve this
problem.

you are welcome to point me to RTFM resources/links, in
case this issue was covered already.

Thank you anyway for reading this long-long post.

I have four browsers installed:

the pre-loaded one, which only downloads/installs files which it recognises,
Opera Mini, which is great for fast browsing, but it uses the built-in browser for downloads,
T-Shark which I don't use very often,
UCWEB, which is crap, but AFAIK, it's the only one which allows download of any file, even .torrents (for use with SymTorrent).

Thank you BroadBandings.
I downloaded opera, opermini and UCWEB,
and will try then on the E90
of the vendor Show-Room.

Thanks again.

Hi Again,

Tried opera, opera-mini and ucweb.
Here are the results:
- Opera mobile: no cursor was available at the GUI
- Opera mini: did not had success in downloading the files from the gmail
- UCWEB: Installation failed.

Any other ideas, anyone?

😊 I did not know about UCWeb , so I gave it a try . Installing was easy .
Set application manager - in Instruments / Settings to : All and Off . Go to http://wap.ucweb.com , choose your device and after some OK-clicks job is done . Good luck 😊

...To install the software on it, since the E90 was removed from the vendor demonstration room.

I will keep this post updated when I complete this check.

Best regards,

Elchanan.

That was a long time ago ! I was forgetting this post . Meanwhile I am using mainly Opera Mini for webbrowsing (version 4.2 ) .
I bookmarked my Gmail in OM as follows :
Search in Google for "Gmail" . In my case the second item "mail.google.com/mail " opens the full Gmail . Bookmark this one . Untill now I can read and download all the attachments .
Good luck !
