Sony Ericsson just announced the G700 and G900 UIQ 3-powered 'touchscreen organisers'. Or as the rest of the world calls them, 'smartphones'. The G700 has a 3.2 megapixel camera, while the G900 has a 5mp camera and Wi-Fi, but otherwise they're very similar. Details below in the press release and comparison table.

What about the:

Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 QWERTY with HSUPA?

thats windows mobile...

more UIQ phones on wednesday...lets hope for the P5

both g phones look like a nice addition for SE smartphone porfolio though

The one on the left looks to have the most sensible keypad I've seen in ages. Hurrah to a return to sanity!

The Experia X1.

Indeed, the gap to the Dark Side has been breached. Indeed, this is the beginning of the end of the first, last and best rebel force, Psion-EPOC-Symbian.

Now, certainly, all is finally lost.

The end of the dream for many, finally vanquished by the insatiable power of the Dark Side: M$.

Godspeed great dream of David Potter!

Nice phone, though.

you kow the P1/W960 uses UIQ3 and not UIQ 3.1 right???

you know the G series uses UIQ 3.2, announced some weeks ago??? then, what are you talking about???

I just hope the G-series has some more horsepower than those sluggish NXP-powered ancestors...

Sony is gonna take the market with his the handsets

How on earth could they leave out HSDPA connectivity??
Why did they leave the good jogdial concept?

it has a d pad...this a different concept device...there will be jogdial on other new uiq devices

Looks very interesting, I can't wait to see how these work out in real usage, when's the AAS reviews of these coming out?

Finally UIQ is making it into 6120 sized handsets. I'm a little surprised SE are keeping the touch-screen though, does this imply they don't like the keypad only variant of UIQ?

JimH, i think its a matter of differenciation...the ts is addon...the phone can be used without it, but it adds an extra layer of "smartphoneness" to it...use it has a normal phone (like a s60) on the go, use the ts for advanced features when you can use both hands for advanced features

according to mobile-review, prices before taxes should be 320 and 270 euros for the g series

Apologies... I meant they still uses UIQ3.0! Ugly fonts, etc... Surely they should use UIQ3.1 or 3.2. Way behing the curve with this one...

1 - there are no indications that they are using UIQ3...the current rumor is that they are using UIQ 3.2

2 - you can change fonts to whatever you want in ANY uiq3 phone

there is a UIQ press conference wednesday...i imagine the site should be updated until then

not being rude... but are you blind(?) the screenshot is clearly UIQ3.0. Also... you cannot "easily change the fonts" on a UIQ phone. I have the P1i so I should know. The default fonts are quite nasty. UIQ3 is abit outdataed (looking) more eye candy with UIQ3.1, etc... Obviously not the only reason you buy a phone. 😉 but look how mordern S60 looks compared to it. On a positive note though... nice to see they intoduced a D-Pad makes it accessible to more people.

Waiting for news of the P1 successor...

i also have a P1 and i EASILY change the fonts...i am using the motorola Z8 font with anti-aliasing correction...its a simple matter of putting the fonts i want under resources\fonts on the memory card...

and please, look at the videos of the UI of G900 and tell me its UIQ3...again, wait for wednesday, and you should see what it is...

well, i stand corrected...on the SE devs page it does say UIQ3, but the UI is clearly different... (again watch the videos and compare)

also, it says wifi b only there, but in the SE.com specs page it says wifi b+g, so who knows...

the fonts bit is true though...changing fonts is just plain easy 😉

By easy... i mean... you dont have to do anything..., ie look good out of the box 😉 not messing around copying and renaming fonts etc... 😉

Oh... that the EXPERIA looks fantastic though! 😉 its not Symbian but it looks great! Hopefully the P5 will look very good as well. Maybe they spruced up UIQ (home screen, etc) abit for the P5. Hope Wednesday isnt dissapointing 😉

i hope so 😉

btw, why this article has been relegated to the bottom of the homepage, and all the nokia stuff went over??? and then AAS finds strange people say they are biased towards nokia?

can some 1 please reply and tell me how much the sony ericsson g900 is

thanks

I've plugged the cable from the G900 to my pc, and it shows up in explorer as a portable disk. But when I open the portable disk in explorer, it says that the disk isn't inserted.
