Nokia's 6620 - The Dark Horse 'Normal' Smartphone?

Outside of the N and E letter, the Nokia 6620 has also debuted, and
this is going to be the 'regular' device. Even then, it's got an
impressive spec range, including a 5 megapixel camera, HSPDA
connectivity, and assisted GPS for location aware services. It also
hooks into the Ovi services as well.

Hurrah, more numbered S60s!

Hurrah, it's got big buttons and not silly little ones!

And it's in rather a lovely colour too, though I suspect not everyone here will agree with me...

Lets hope that they can sort out the dropped/silent calls issues of the 6120.

I never had any dropped or silent calls at all with the 6120, and I was using a retail version I bought in a shop.

The 5700 had problems, but the 6120 behaved brilliantly.

I agree...

6620 ? nokia already has a phone by that name. Released somewhere near 2001, it was a US only version of the flagship 6600..
Hmm.. Wonder if thats why nokia started the N series.. Coz they were running out of names 😊

Arcade, technically this is the "6620 Classic" rather than the "6620". 😉

For the past year or so Nokia has started recycling old model numbers by adding a word to the end of them, so we got the 6120 Classic, 6110 Navigator, 3110 Classic etc etc.

Nseries, Eseries and the numbered phones are separate because Nokia itself has three separate units making phones: Mobile Phones (who do numbered phones), Multimedia (who do Nseries) and Enterprise (who do Eseries.

All these units are merging later this year into one Devices unit, but I think they'll keep the Nseries and Eseries names going because they've become popular brands.

Gosh, sorry, you're right, it should say "6620 Classic" in the actual news story.

Okay, I've corrected it now!

"I never had any dropped or silent calls at all with the 6120, and I was using a retail version I bought in a shop."

Krissie, check out the 6110/6120 forum, it is a big problem and very well documented.

How do you know it's a big problem? Do you know what percentage of 6120 owners have problems?

I had a 6120 for many weeks and never had any problems at all with calling, or anything else for that matter.

Hand on my heart, the 6120 was the most reliable phone I reviewed in 2007. It was far more reliable than the N95, for example, and I took the 6120 with me everywhere so it received a lot of real-world testing.

What else can I say? Should I make stuff up?

It's difficult to judge whether complaints in a forum mean anything, partly because no one posts unless they have a problem, and partly because popular models always attract more complaints. The 6120 has apparently sold very very well, so even with a low failure rate the total number of complaints might be relatively high. You can't judge the reliability of a device by how many people complain, because you don't know what percentage of users that represents.

Just to illustrate this with numbers:

If you sell 1,000,000 of a particular device with a 1% problem rate, 10,000 people would have problems.

If you sell 100,000 of another device with a 5% problem rate, 5000 people would have problems.

The first device is five times more reliable, yet twice as many people complain about it.

Reaching the C key and Menu key with fingers will be a real pain on this device, I think. And the color is really a turn-off. I think this is the worst-looking device from Nokia in recent time. But the specs are really impressive. It'll be an interesting journey for this device in the Nseries-addicted market.

This seems to be a more compact version of the N82.
I wonder if it has the Acclerometer chip? or can play the new ngage games?
Pity about the 2.5mm jack rather than 3.5.
Am seriously thinking this is better than the N95, -ve's screen size, +ve's smaller.

Have you seen the black 6220 classic? It looks soo good. This purple/pink 6220 looks like........ giant candy =)

HURRAH! Ah, my dream phone has arrived at last.

Despite the nonsense above complaining about the 6120 I have found it to be the best phone I have ever used, as many other have said. Huge power and usability in a small package. The things I dreamed about though were things NSeries has - GPS, Xenon flash, TV out etc, widgets (web run time). But still with the tiny size and weight, and the speed and usability of the 6120.

6220 has all this, and seems to be the best of the N95, N95 and N82. This is fantastic, well done Nokia.

What rubbish 😊

Excellent work Nokia, I expect this will be a big seller. It better get NGage on it 😊

I have to say, 6120 HAS these unwanted call bug. I also have it on my wifes phone, who as absolutely NO 3rd party program on it. Please do not be ignorant - if "some" people have these problems, they are here. And there are a lot of (nokia) phones, where this is NEVER a problem.

Yes, I agree that there are some problems with lost/silent calls with 6120. I have one and I have experienced these problems.

However, it is a great phone and I'm glad this site championed it so much when it came out (kudos to Krisse).

This 6220 looks to be a fantastic upgrade. I am sorely tempted to go for it.

What happened to the purple colour? Nokia's web site shows a horrific blue variant now and the purple is gone.

ive had this phone for few months now, and im very happy with it. really a good deal.
photos could be better, but its not about that. its small, handy, smart, and battery is not that bad
