n82 max card size?

18 replies · 8,449 views · Started 12 February 2008

Hey guys,

Just upgraded with o2 my n73 to this feature packed n82. Hope it's as good as its specification. I do wish I could get the black mind but o2 only offer silver, it will do!

Any how. What's the max mem size it can take? 2gb, 4gb? Also any general pointers on anything ?

I have also recently upgraded from the N73 to N82 and I love it.

I am using an 8GB Sandisk microSD right now with no problems. 16GB has recently been announced and I'm guessing that it will probably work, too.

Yeh I used the default clock (alarm) on the N73. Although perfectly usable just miss having that something extra. Repeatable alarm (not having to set it every day), snooze alteration etc. Just thought Nokia may have tweaked or at least improved on what was there on the N73. Never mind...was worth asking.

I upgraded from N73 to N82 too and it should be noted that the standard alarm application has been improved compared to the N73. You can now set multiple repeatable alarms and have them go off on particular days. Very intuitive. I do not need any other application any more.

O' thats great to hear. That will DO fine!

Any one know where to get cheap large mem cards from? Where did you get yours from?

Tez., Lithe,

Can't remember which of you were asking, but here are a few sites (which I have used, and can vouch for):-

http://www.mymemory.co.uk 4Gb 15.99

http://www.mobymemory.com/micro-SD.asp 17

http://www.eshopbrokers.com/acatalog/Sandisk_4GB_MicroSD_SDHC_Memory_Card.html 15.99 with card reader.

Good luck 😊

As you have both recently got the N82 (I have too), maybe you can answer the following:-

Does your "press # for a couple of seconds in standby, to set the phone to silent". Does this actually work for you??

Also, I have just moved a number of folders from my 6300. Those folders (about 10) contain images (about 1100). With the 6300 (and 6230i before) I was able to look into each and every folder and SEE the images in each folder. With the N82 I find that one can ONLY see ALL images (one after the other, or a quick spin) from the gallery. This can be a pain in the butt, if looking for a particular image.

If you have found a way round this, I'd be pleased to know.
Until then I have found this programme "Resco Photo Viewer (4.50)" which gives ability to see (the image) in each and every folder on the mem card or phone, without having to open the image first. You MAY find this handy, if you have previously stored images in folders on a previous phone.

Cheers guys

The holding down '#' does go to silent for me.

As for the pictures, I did not transfer any from my N73, so I wouldn't be able to help you with that. Although, I did use Resco previously and it seemed like a nice program to have around to view thumbnails.

Still to load mine with images or do anything with it yet so can't really answer question. Was just going to download PC suite. I see standard PC suite works with this or NSeries PC Suite. I assume I should get the NSeries version? This what all you guys using?

Tezler,

I'm still using the normal PC suite, which works just fine. I actually called the Muppets at Nokia, and they said it should be fine, as long as latest release, which it is 6.85.14.1.

Lithe,
Thanks for the info on the # key. For some reason, mine doesn't wish to play 😞.

Normal screen (NOT the standby apps screen) populated with about 9 icons in grid fashion. Pressing, for a few seconds, of the # key merely shows as if I am calling that number (it appears in a box, where one would expect a phone number to be).

Mmm Thinks

Cheers

Oh, another link for 4Gb card
http://www.onlinememory.co.uk 17.95 Free delivery, or
http://www.memorycardzoo.co.uk 18.99 with Free delivery and "Free" card reader for the microSD

Nice one for memory links. Turned out phone came with 2GB card (something didn't expect). I know it's not as large as I was thinking but for now I'll just use this. If that time comes when it's not enough I can upgrade to 4 or 8 which will probably drop in price.

I went for the NSeries Suite. Just a series of applications (doesn't include map loader which is strange). Using this though there is no direct edit contacts on the phone, see images etc. Who's using what in this forum and why?

I know this forum keeps swinging across a number of topics so here's another one.

First query:

On the N73, the messages display "inbox" was customizable. Is this not the case any more? I.E. I now see name and start of message. On the N73 I prefered the view of showing more messages (just the contacts name).

Secondly:

Maps, who uses it and is the navigation purchase worth it? And on this point stripping away "turn left", "turn right" is it not possible (free) to have the map show you where you are while moving. Similar to a sat nav if your not on a route?

Hope these questions make sense. I'm sure I'll have more some time soon.

Taz.

I agree with regards to the sat nav side of things.

I too am a little dumbfounded that one cannot get the phone to show you where you are whilst NOT routing. I've asked the muppets at Nokia, but they just give the "bog standard" answer "Oh it can't be possible then" (and THEY are supposed to be tech support!!).

I too have a seperate SatNav (TomTom-which I wouldn't be without) but having the mapping on the phone comes in handy when TomTom not present, although TomTom has more functionality (but then again have you ever tried making a call on a TomTom (without a seperate phone!?) 😊

Cheers

This pretty much makes the Nokia Maps application useless. Does the purchasing bit give you this functionality? (maybe someone who has bought can help?) I mean routing's good BUT I ain't paying if this is missing.

P.S. Thinking of starting another thread "Applications you have installed and what they offer". While I had my Nokia N73 I didn't put a thing on it. I want to try and use my phone now. You think such a thread to be a good idea?

Hey guys, are you sure N82 Supports up 8Gig MicoSD ? I seriously doubt man,

The Nokia Forum / Spec page says that the Max is only 4 Gig.

Could you confirm ?

Yes, I can confirm that an 8GB microSD card will work with the N82. I am currently using a Sandisk 8GB microSD with my N82.
