Smartmedia card with a 7650

Does anyone has (detailed) specs on how the external memory card is attached to the 3650? I think it might be possible to attach a memorycard to a 7650 as well but I need to know some things before I start experimenting.

A) First of all: how does the 3650 "see" the extra memory? does it has it's own driveletter?

B) Does the 3650 use the same firmware as the 7650?

C) Does anyone has the schematics of the 3650 and/or 7650?

My idea is that the 3650 has basicly the same hardware as the 7650, because the 3650 doesn't have a light and proximity sensor and a few keys less it had some IO ports to spare. I suspect Nokia used the free IO lines to interface with the memory card. I also suspect that on a software level not much has been changed, it may well be possible that the FW 4.XX of the 7650 supports the MMC slot.

I short, it just might be posible to get an MMC port up and running on a 7650 is I/we can gather enough information about this.

Yes it is assigned it's own driver letter by the O/S

Nope. Flashing a 7650 with 3650 firmware woulnt work either 😞

C) Does anyone has the schematics of the 3650 and/or 7650?

No, sorry. There are a lot of people on these forums far more technically minded than myself who may be able to help though. 😊

The chipset of the 7650 wouldn't address the extra memory. 😛

I agree.

But what if its connected trough bluetooth?

I use mine thru my SL45i infrared-port
😃 Is the best thing on earth to have next to my 7650... 32M full of appz, games, pics, waves... I don't even use my SL45i to play Mp3... Who cares...

Quick way to make a 7650 with an MMC slot

Tools needed:

7650 (Case only)
3650
Torx screwdriver set
Industrial Sander
Jig Saw

Destuctions

1: Open 3650 and take off the front and back covers.

2: Chop off anything that looks like it doesn't do much

3: Using the Jig saw cut the keypad part of the board in half

3: Using sander shave a a bit here and there until you can jam it into place

4: Cut holes in the keypad part of the 7650 case so you can fit the 3650 buttons in.

5: Using super glue try to fit everything in place and seal the case.

Volia!...one 7650(i)

This mod was brought to you be stupid telecoms....we except no responability for your stupidity. :P

I'm looking into that as well, the hardware is no problem (MMC card + microcontroler + BT module) I can built that in a day. The problem is the software (especialy on the microcontroler because I'll have to write a bluetooth stack from scratch)

Does anyone have a BT stack for the Atmel AVR family lying around??

I think that i have posted this but have you considered trying some opensource BT stack(BlueZ,Affix,AXIS)

Have you considered getting hold of one of those modules which provide a serial port and simply converts it into a Bluetooth RFCOMM port? Brainboxes make one: http://www.brainboxes.com/news/news.asp?id=46 - not sure if it's for sale yet though.

They've got another one currently on sale - http://www.blueunplugged.com/shop/detail.asp?productGroupID=118&deptID=5 - for 172.

ConnectBlue also seem to sell one: http://www.connectblue.se/products_spa.htm - for upwards of $210 each.

I volunteer to write (and release for free) the software for the phone side if someone develops the hardware 😊
