Can you use Skype with a Nokia N95? Looking for the cheapest way I can make calls back to the UK from the US (or to my wife's mobile if we are split up with the kids in the parks - Orlando) when I'm on holiday in the US?
If Skype is not feasible are there other options that don't cost loads or involve buying US mobiles/sims?

Fring incorporates Skypes as well as other services, there are plenty of VOIP services / apps out there though
Indeed. I use Fring because I already have history with Skype and contacts/money in that. Fring does the job admirably.

Excellent so I can use Fring to connect from the free wifi spots in the US and call home to the UK? Presumably I need to set up a contract with Skype first?
Yeah. Skype calls to normal numbers are charged at local rate but if you call someone else's skype account, it's completely free! Try to get your family to install skype then you can call them for free
I also recommend installing skype on a PC as it will be easier to get it all set up using their PC app
if i use truphone to call the uk from australia is it charghed at local rate?also how does it work money wise. ie how do i put money on my truphone account or skype account? which is better fring or truphone?thanks
A native skype client maybe closer than you think..... but we've all heard that before.....

I use Fring for Skype and Yahoo IM and Truphone for free landline calls (well, until the end of Feb). Truphone to Truphone will always be free (apparently, so you need to get all your contacts using Nokias with truphone installed.

Yes. VOIP applications work by connecting as much of the call as possible over the internet which is free. If you call a contact who is also using the same system (be it skype to skype or truphone to truphone) the entire call is free but if you call a 'normal' phone number the largest part of the call will be routed over the internet and the last 'leg' is done over the destination phone network and thus charged at local rate.

You create an account either through the truphone website or the skype desktop application and then add funds to it from a credit card or whatever. These funds are then used to pay for any chargable calls.

Of the VOIP services available I would suggest skype (and therefore the Fring client) as they have a nice desktop client which you can get your family/friends to install making your calls home completely free.
i have only just started to use skype, can 2 people be logged into the same account at once?
Skype is the easiest and most well known to get your mates/olds etc etc to install and use on a computer.
You can log on to you account on PC at the same time as your mobile if you need to but you cant be logged in to two phones simultaneously so you'd need to log off one to start the other.
Truphone will also converse with Google Talk on a PC for free. Also, remember that Truphone have been saying for the last year or so that the free calls were only for another couple of months, but they keep extending. Personally, as the N95 has a built-in SIP stack, I don't see the point of installing a load of proprietary software to do the same job; I'd go for Truphone or another SIP provider every time. I suppose it's like people thinking that you have to have a Blackberry to do push email: everybody seems to think that you have to have Skype to do VoIP.
I see your point but the reason I use Fring (and I was a truphoner for 5 months first) is because so many people have the PC skype client (or can easily get it). I don't need VOIP much as I'm not a big traveller but the people I want to call when I am away, all have Skype.
