Orange not doing N95 8GB

Well, spoke to Orange this morning to get my PAC code sorted, as I am moving to O2 with an N95 8GB version, and the retentions guy confirmed that Orange are not doing the N95 8GB version, and that in fact, they will be dropping the entire N-Series phones ... as "they have not been as good as expected".

Not sure if this is short sighted of Orange or what, as I know I am jumping ship to get the phone that I want.

that's either, they are nuts, they know something we don't or my pick they have been paided to drop them

They are committing suicide as a company with their policies. I wonder how many people are leaving them because I dont know anyone other than myself who still use them and I will definately leave when my contract is up!!

I would understand ditching Nokia if they were going to swear allegance with another major provider but just looking at their selection of phones, it is a random selection of junk.

Why do they think that people want an old model that they have had painted purple or pink.

I think Orange are by far the worst performing operator in the UK! I would love to seem some facts and figures.

Note: You can get the N95 8GB and N82 on orange, just not through orange direct!

Here are the figures for May 2007 when the N95 had been on the general market a couple of months:

Did you read some of the junk that morons had posted in response. I know all of us here are biased but some people are plain stupid and fail to realise exactly what Nokia has acheived in the converged device market.

poor GPS.......at least it has 1, SE are only just rolling theres out. It is fine using A-GPS enough for me to ditch my bluetooth GPS.
Poor camera.......Look at the facts, the N95, N95 8GB and N82 currently have the best camera in a phone. This is subjective but images from these phones beats even the closest rivals such as the Samsung G800 (too noisy), SE - Poor colour enhancement, too much noise reduction making pictures blurry etc.
Someone moaned that it had WLAN @ 802.11G so basically moaning because the phone is overspecced!!!

Orange are not stocking the N95 8GB because it contains the Nokia Music Store which is in direct competition with Orange's own music store.

When Nokia announced it's Music Store, Orange threw it's toys out of the pram and stated it would not stock any Nokia with the music store installed.

Hence no 'N' Series.

well that's stupid, because they could spec that out of their firmware version. then you could just install it after you get it.

I've also read somewhere that T-Mobile are stopping having any devices that can access Ovi, as it is direct competition for whatever their proprietary rubbish is.

Will decisions like this (assuming it is correct) by the operators lead to the end of Ovi before it's really started, or simply create more of the specific operator branded devices such as the 6124 for Voda exclusively?

Whatever reason that Orange are not doing the 8GB version, they are doing the N95-1 with free 8GB memory card, which IMHO represents a better deal as I was never keen on the restrictive nature of the 8GB with no card slot, no matter whether the screen was all of 0.2" bigger or it was black 😉

I got mine on that deal and with v20 FW, it's a top device.

You can get the N95 8gb on orange through Carphonewarehouse at the moment. You will have to wait till end of May at the moment to get it through Orange direct.
If you get one now it has none of the orange software on but if you wait till may and get one from orabge it will have the orange software on.

im a little bit new to this symbian phone stuff, but i do know that if i want the latest firmware i will have to 'de-orange' my phone to do it, so invalidating my warranty😡😡

So IF orange drop the 'N' series can i update without loosing my nokia warranty???

:frown: i feel as thou im on the the symbian version of windows3.11 :frown:

Read the sticky about debranding. Although 'technically' it invalidates the warranty, NOBODY on this forum has had warranty repair refused on these grounds. It is definaely worth doing.
