for Euro1 at least .. enjoy!😊
v21 IS HERE :) on NSU
did you have to start another thread for it??????????????

The updating process seems "safer" .. the download is about 116M .. install time about 10minutes .. it starts out saying 15 .. but then quickly changes to 6... at 3minutes the phone goes into "test mode" .. get that far you're pretty safe.
I restored my settings (Black Ice - Fire edition .. theme) everything came up ok ..
had to re-pair the BT keyboard but that was all.
happy day! 😊
Yeah I decided to risk a complete restore and it seems to have worked fine. I had trouble with that going to V20 so did a fresh install then but so far my restored v20 settings seem to be stable on v21. Of course only time will tell

It wont be the last thread either Im sure

Dont be too sure 😉

Ahh I'm glad someone's done this and succeeded. I've got a few apps that I've paid for that I don't want to lose. I'll do a backup and upgrade, and see how it goes.
3Shirts wrote:...so far my restored v20 settings seem to be stable on v21....
Thanks for that. I think I'll risk it. That will save about a day's work rebuilding everything.
My thoughts exactly. When I did this on v20 and it failed I just re-flashed to fix it so thought I might as well try this time. I'd be interested to hear if it works ok for you guys too.
Incidentally I have a EURO1 product code and did the backup and restore with no changes to product code inbetween.
Also, a fair few of my apps still needed reinstalling so do be aware that not everything will be saved. All my apps (where possible) are installed to phone memory.
Thanks for this. Updated with no problems :icon14:😊
OK an update... I manged to restore my backup and there aren't any bugs. Java apps load quicker, the music is a little louder, and flash certainly works in the browser. However, lots of the apps I had failed to work. They either didn't show up in the menus, or wouldn't load when I tried to open them. Only a handful of apps would work, so I had to reinstall quite a lot of programs anyway. Thankfully they were either free apps or paid apps where I had the registration key saved on the PC.
Yeah, lots of apps need reinstalling but I find often the settings are there so when I reinstall it is set up how I want it (this includes most of the registration info for paid apps).
I didn't do a full restore in the end. My reasoning was that the full backup I had contained standalone apps like Location Tagger and ShareOnline 3. I figured that if these were now included in the firmware then there was bound to be conflict if I restored these over the top.
In the end, I find that these apps are conspicuously absent in the v21 firmware. Which is very odd because ShareOnline3 at least is now out of beta.
Personally I'm disappointed with this update. I had assumed that these updated apps would be included in firmware and they're not; and I find that the new Flash version doesn't work on the Flash sites I'd really like it to. I've concluded that this was an update aimed largely at YouTube junkies, and if you're not one of those I wouldn't bother.

No Internet Radio, either.
Mine upgraded the firmware okay but the backup/restore failed to work. I tried using a backup from last weekend as well as older backups but nothing worked. It's odd because i've done that before when upgrading to V20 with no probs at all.
Not a major problem as most of my numbers were still stored on the SIM and I had a lot of the apps on the SD card, but it's just a little warning that the restore may not work correctly for everyone.

Internet radio is a serperate downloadable app. You can get it from Nokia MOSH.
DavidC wrote:...Not a major problem as most of my numbers were still stored on the SIM...
Surely you could do at least a partial restore of calendar, contacts, and bookmarks? I always do that.
waxup wrote:Internet radio is a serperate downloadable app. You can get it from Nokia MOSH.
You miss the point. Why didn't they take the opportunity of including it in firmware?
to track how many people us it?
or maybe to keep it up-to-date without having to update the firmware every time it can be updated or bugfixed?
Maps is in the firmware but they still release updates to that which can be installed over the top
neilhoskins wrote:Surely you could do at least a partial restore of calendar, contacts, and bookmarks? I always do that.
When I was doing a restore .. it got stuck on Calendar/Notes for what seemed like ages .. I was patient enough to let it run out but it was annoying.
- naturally not every application is going to "just run" even those you install to memory card won't do that .. the thing is the settings are restored ..
- UPGRADE .. its SAFE and worthwhile.:icon14:
do you really think flash is worth the upgrading?? ( i say that as thats the main diff)
I mean, its not like the v20 massive leap.
kontraband wrote:do you really think flash is worth the upgrading?? (
No, I wouldn't have bothered, frankly. I'm not a YouTube junkie and the flash still doesn't work on the one site I would have been interested in (Internet Archive - see separate post). BBC iPlayer now kinda works, but isn't viewable, really. I suspect that when the BBC get around to the N95 flavour of iPlayer it will need this version of firmware, but apart from that I can't forsee any advantages, really.

I mean the BT keyboard just plain works now. It was a pain in the arse before.
I think a lot of the hardware stuff has been fixed (at least improved) eg the video camera.
stuff works a lot faster in general. Think of v20 as being the .0 release of a new operating system .. v21 is like a massive service pack. its MUCH tidier.
so in short .. UPGRADE! its much safer than it has been previously (did you notice the upgrade process installs all the drivers it needs before trying to deliver the firmware?)
😊
But... besides Flash - the Gallery is faster, standby time has had a tweak - so that must mean a bit more battery management refinement, faster Java runtime, better Bluetooth headset compatibility, and Web runtime.
I'm happy with it, it feels just that bit more solid again.

Does anyone notice any differences with Bluetooth headset interoperabilityafter the V21 load ?

gimmie an hour or so 😊
Okay .. pairing is faster .. and the sound seems better ..
So win X 2 !😊
BBC clips on the sports and news pages are now in flash so atleast they can now be viewed.
ther Iplayer is going be fully viewable very soon they say but not found the date yet.
when i want to watch certain BBC iplayer programs on my mobile it say this content is only viewable in the UK ,i am in the UK with UK N95 8GB
After the upgrade to v.21, I can't hear the voice guidance within maps. i've tried the obyious things like profile setting and volume ands even switched the warning tones on in 'Setting' but still nothing. Anyone got any ideas?

.....reload the voice feature again using the map loader (on PC)
