UIQ Technology just announced the availability of UIQ 3.3. The new release is built on top of Symbian OS v9.3 and adds among other things, Opera Mobile 9.5, supporting 'a full web-experience on mobile devices', Opera Widgets and UIQ Dashboard. Whether this will bring more UIQ 3 powered smartphones to the market in the near future or not remains to be seen. Full press release after the break.

Read on in the full article.

Now just cant wait for opera mobile 9 for Nokia N95 series.. a.k.a symbian Os9.1

A Widget Dashboard would be cool, kind of like MacOS X F12 keypress or Nokia WidSets with a one-press access and one-press hide.
This MOTO-driven stuff is starting to look a lot like Nokia S60.
If only MOTO had touch UI phones with this...
It's very strange to see SE take a nose dive and Motorola take off with UIQ development...

I agree with some stuff you write...but you seem to miss all UIQ3 users have now access to a free app called GDESK that effectively let you forget the only 12 configurable shortcuts given by SE on the P1, and rearrange the menus at our will...

Besides that, the panels interface on G900 and G700 shows they are finally making a less complicated version of UIQ like you mentioned

And them there is the even better UIQ stuff to be announced soon...nose dive??? I dont think so...

Yes, there are UI improvement apps, but it's the OOB experience (or, in fact, the in-store experience) that the prospect buyers judge by. Most of them never heard of Gdesk and will not see it in-store when shopping for a phone. They simply will not have a chance to judge the improvements unless they buy the device. It's like the old DOS times, needing the Norton Commander/PC Tools badly 'cause the DOS UI was ugly.
Then again, is there a guarantee that Gdesk or whatever stays free during the lifetime of this device (~2 yrs)?

Someone knows where to grab UIQ 3.3?, want to try it with my p1i.
