Don't you have to make sure that the PC suite isn't running when you use NSS?
welcome to my world ! my n95 8gb has euro 1 product code but I thought I'd use nss to alter it to the GB one that apparently works - could I get NSS to work - no I couldn't - tried everything - pc suite on/off, n series pc suite, messed around with drivers, no way would nss work...have a look at the b phreaks home page, that's where nss comes from. There's a known issues with nss & pc suite - nss won't work with this version of pc suite & i've no idea how to get around it - b phreaks are aware of this and are working to amend nss to get it compatible - I hope they hurry up !
so, like me - be patient !
re my earlier posts and comments on this subject the easiest way round it for me was to restore my system (xp) PRIOR to the point when I updated NSU. Then I changed my code updated using NSS etc. all done
The firmware for N95 8GB is not the same as that for the N95; do not try to force the N95 firmware on the N95 8GB. You will likely brick the phone. The latest firmware for the N95 8GB is 15.0.015 (mine is WG / unbranded).

I thought the newest one for the 8Gb was v20, with auto-rotation built in.

That is correct. Updated my N95 8GB to V20.0.016 yesterday without a single problem 😊
Did a full backup also and even all that went back on my my phone without any problems also. The only thing i did lose was the Spiderman 3 movie. Which i deleted before i updated anyway. I mean how many times can a person watch the same movie anyway 🙄
EDIT: Oh forgot to add, my handset is unbranded also.

Hi,
I had the same issue 2 weeks ago (NSS used to work with my N95 but something had changed over the last 12 months). I did some diggin on the internet and found a suggestion that recent versions of PC Suite killed NSS.
The recommendation was to install NSS103811.exe (and the original patched dll). When I did this, NSS worked fine and I could once again change product codes.
Hope this is of help?
Dez
after trying to download NSS from b-phreaks.co.uk and not having any luck (always redirecting) i managed to find it on www.4shared.com it worked and i found that my product number was 0549487 - euro 1, in the phone it said 0558164, but a while back i took it to a nokia service agent and they debranded it, i tried to update the software to v21 but the NSU said that i had the current software 15.0.015 RM-320. i loaded nss and wrote in the euro 1 code just in case but the NSU wont update. what can i do?
I have the same problem. Tried using NSS last version and even the one NSS103811.exe but still no go. Same error as the first post here. Any help please ?
If you have the latest version of PC Suite installed, you won't be able to use NSS in some cases. There are know driver conflicts. Also, The new version of NSU has known incompatiblity issues with Vista also.

if you backed up and restored everything you wouldnt have lost spiderman mate, did you tick all the boxes in content copier?

Nope. Has i'd said in my previous post i deleted it before updating and backing up anyway. My choice to not want it anymore. Afterall if i did want it back on my phone i have it on DVD and could quite easily rip it again 😉
Plus backup would of taken twice as long because of an extra 800gb or so of extra data. Anyway i watched it once on my phone and thats enough for me 😊
I've just joined this forum today, and before I mention the hassle I've gone through today to get my n95 8gb (O2 branded) up to v20, would just like to say that the advice on this thread and others has been most helpful.
I too was getting the same error mentioned by mikester585 in the first post in this thread. So after trying mutiple combinations of uninstalling software and re-installing, and various things getting thrown across the room 😊, i found a solution that worked for me. Bear in mind I'm using XP. I've heard on other threads there are still issues with vista and nsu.
So first of all, I pretty much took baconroll's advice. I un-installed all Nokia related programs. Before that I had a hotch potch of old n95 pc suite, and the new one. So got rid of the whole lot. I also made sure I had the most up to date version of nss (think it's nss103812.exe). I then re-installed the new n95 8gb pc suite, and ignored installing any of the video manager/music player apps.
At this point, I then used nss to update the phone info. I used the Norway product code (0558086) which is detailed in other threads as Euro1 is still at v15. After this had been completed, I then tried the nsu using the new pc suite. It will most likely download a new software updater, then update a number of drivers. As mentioned in other threads and this one, it seems the new software and driver update does something pretty nasty to nss.
Once all this was done, the upgrade went through fine. I've just taken a new backup just in case it all goes pear shaped. So this is (after many frustrating hours) how I was able to get the upgrade working. But with differing operating systems, product codes, bundled nokia software, it seems there is no one definite solution.
