The Nokia N95 8GB just got a minor firmware update, to v20.0.016 (from v15). Apart from a few bug fixes and optimisations, the main changes are the addition of Automatic Screen Rotation (driven by the accelerometer, as on the N82) and support for more Bluetooth headsets. See below for details and comments.
Read on in the full article.
Can ASR be done on the standard N95???
Hey, can anyone give some more info on the Bluetooth headsets thing ?
They can...but they won't
For a momenet I thought you have something new Steve 😊
It is quite an old "news" we got and publish full change log few weeks ago?
If the "foundations" of UDP had been layed down, surely it would have been mentioned in Teo's changelog.
the "combo memory" mentioned in Teo's changelog is probably the foundation for Udp, which we'll find in the next update.
Glad it's out for euro codes as i updated on a obscure product code and have had issues with both the download app and the silent profile shortcut using # not working.
Will reinstall with the euro code.
@Unregistered: No, this is new news, v20 firmware was effectively just vapourware for most N95 8GBs until lunchtime today. Today was the big release for most of the Euro product codes! 8-)
Teo mentioned that the combo memory wouldn't benefit us(the end user) in any way so I doubt it has anything to do with UDP.
"If the "foundations" of UDP had been layed down, surely it would have been mentioned in Teo's changelog."
The n82 came with but never advertised with UDP until the first update(and no change log ever mentioned it). Probably the same kind of situation.
I don't really agree with this firmware as vaporware before today. It exists and can be updated at service points. It just wasn't on available on NSU.
Since the Black N82 comes with v20 already, does it exist since it shipped before the update NSU update?
If I remember correctly, Teo didn't post any changelogs for the N82 until the recent one for V20, but I may be wrong.
The firmware was infact available for many N95 8GBs via NSU for a long time now. Take for instance the UK Country Variation N95 8GB.
This seems like a relatively minor update. Do you think it's worth it? I already have rotate me installed and it can take me about 5 hours to reinstall all my apps and settings after a firmware update. What do you reckon?
Does Nokia internet radio work with the new firmware on WLAN? I keep getting "Connection Timed Out"
If you're happy with Rotateme and aren't experiencing problems it would be tempting to stay put. I went from V11 on my new N95 8GB handset, and fortunately the hack still works on this firmware (worth thinking about when weighing up the update - I probably won't update this handset again because I would imagine Nokia will close the hack down in their next firmware).
This firmware has been available on Euro 1 handset 01.01 for a few days now, I did mine last Saturday via NSU, perhaps they then removed it for a few days like the E90?
anyone have any idea when Maps 2.0 is officially out? Its already on Ads for new Nokia Devices
One new little thing that I have noticed already is that the Gps Positioning has been improved.
instead of the default bars that were very hard to see, they are now white outlines and white boxes. Makes it much easier to see if you are getting a fix.
the other annoyance for me was fact that I have two ngages now, some apps just dissapeared, and that both shareonline and maps reverted to earlier versions.
Maps updated fine to the version 2 however, and my reg code came over for naviation as well, so nothing major to complain about.

Mosh client doesn't work with the update.
After this V20 update does the "old menu" style appear and stay permanent...I hope not...:icon13:
Wifi browsing seems to be working with less glitches. I would get connection errors at time and they don't appear anymore. Browsing if smoother. The doubled Ngage is anothing though
Dude,
Has the memory speed increased?
I have problems recording video straight to mass memory.
The image freezes etc - the only work around is to record to Phone Memory.
Which is a pain to say the least.
Would you (or someone) be able to check please?
@whatleydude
I had this problem when I updated from v11 to v15. What you need to do is reinstall the firmware again. It should fix the problem... To cut a long story short I still had some minor issues after reinstalling v15 firmware again. The video cam no longer stuttered but on some rare occasions the phone would take minutes to save a picture/video/"do a task" etc and at most other times it took seconds which is the norm speed.
Now I've upgraded again to v20 firmware everything seems to be running perfectly. Fingers X
I don't know why it effects some handset and doesn't others. Nokia screwed something up... If you google for "n95 8gb video stuttering firmware" you'll find others who have experienced this problem.
Great nokia startup seems to me slower and alarm clock is not working if phone is off.
I will downgrade.
Hi,
1) Does standard camera application have geotagging feature (like N82)?
2) What's the exact version number of Nokia Maps application pre-installed on the device? Is it still v1.2 wk48 b01?

I've got an N95 8GB on 02 in the UK, product code 0559497. NSU only shows V15 which I already have. 02 say they don't restrict updates so any ideas why I can't get V20, or maybe when I can?
Thanks
Keef.
Re the alarm clock not working when phone is off I had the same problem with my N95 8GB. It turned out to be an issue with the DRM Common Solutions component that gets installed with some (maybe all?) Psiloc applications (e.g. IrRemote). Try uninstalling the DRM Solutions application, this worked for me 😊
Good luck...
i chagering up my phone as i type this 😊
It seems that the latest firmware is v15 Where did you saw that v20? Is it available only in USA?
