Have tried searching forum but haven't found anything.
How do you zoom in and out reliably using the internal screen? The screen shows the * and # to zoom but this never works for the # but sometimes does for the * but seems to end up putting 8s in the search line most of the time. The other strange one is the inverted "selection keys". The keys work as they should but the labels are inverted. For example on start up Exit is at top of screen and Options at bottom but pressing the top selection key gives the options and pressing the bottom selection key gives the exit option.
If this has been answered earlier please let me have the link.
E90 nokia maps 2.0 beta internal screen problems
Left Shift and Backspace.

Thanks, did you discover the keys the hard way or is there somewhere that tells you?
The funny I get is that I can zoom in to a high zoom level but after about a second it drops back and I cannot zoom up anymore except by zooming out and then zooming in but it always drops back after about a second.
Have you tried the new version of Maps 2?
The only problem that I found there is that the software freezes the phone if there is no GPS signal...
Yes.
Zoom in still not working properly, ie sometimes zooms in a long way but then backs out and you cannot zoom in.
Thats quite possibly a Garmin problem. Install garmin version .80 and see if the zoom issue with nokia maps 2 still happens. Sorted mine out.
And post code search is only 1st 5 characters.
That was a bug in the previous version of the beta. The latest has that fixed.
I downloaded the latest beta 3 hours ago. Is there a newer one?

Please explain what Garmin has got to do with Nokia Maps.
Garmin had a problem where it affected the # key, which in turn affected SMS and the zoom out function on nokia maps.
Sounds odd, but this was definatly the case. I had that problem, updated Garmin to .80, and I no longer have the zoom issue.
As for the postcode search, this was a known problem but was fixed - supposedly - in the last release. It fixed it for me.
Just checking the version of maps Im running, and its
V2.0 wk18 b03
I think anyway. Its not visable in the help, or about sections.
The sis I have is 2.0_1803_3.1
Thanks for reply.
I have same version and it does not do full postcode search in Cheltenham.
In Surrey it doesn't work at all on postcode I tried, but does on a different 4 character code. Same in Bath only 4 characters.
Still confused as to how installing a Garmin app will help my E90 running Nokia maps with internal gps.
No, thats only if you already have Garmin. Garmin has a bug which affects the # key, as I said. However if you dont have Garmin, then I dont know whats causing the zoom problem.
Or the postcode problem for that matter, everyone I know had it has reported it fixed with thise new version of maps.
Did you upgrade, or install the new version from fresh?
If you did an upgrade, Id be tempted to uninstall, and delete maps from your memory (the cities folder).
Download the latest sis file from nokia labs, and install anew. Thats the only thing I can think of.
If that doesnt work, leave nokia feedback.
Will try that tomorrow, thanks for suggestion.
Have discovered full postcode search is only available if online. I run Maps offline because I want something that will work out of gsm coverage. Wayfinder (for me) works much better than Maps but needs GSM coverage.
If anyone knows if you can get full postcode search offline would appreciate knowing. Possibly Nokia using very old maps.
I should have said it only works online, I assumed you knew that.
Sadly, theres no way to do it. Personally, I think its very stupid.
First is the reason you mentioned, what if you didnt have any coverage. Second, is that not everyone has data plans, and why should you have to search online when its such a small file that could be included with the maps download?
Postcodes are not updated often anyway.
Its not nokia using old maps, its them being silly.
Im thinking another program would suit you, perhaps Garmin or copilot.
Just for clarification, my issue with zoom is only with zoom in. I have never had a problem with zoom out (# or right-shift).
As for alternative to Maps, The Wayfinder alternative Navicore has promise but lacks (vitally) the ability to save routes and the maps aren't as good as Wayfinder.
The offline search is also very slow in Maps.
I agree with the comments about data charges and searching.
Nokia seem to think if you have bought an E90 you want to give them lots more money to use it, guess someone has to pay for the free music.
Navicore is now wayfinder.
They have just released a new version, and tell me they are set to release another possibly this month but with maps included, rather than downloading them as you go.
Im hoping to get a copy and review it when its out.
Otherwise, Id suggest you look at garmin or copilot live 7.
The Navicore product is not Wayfinder. I have both. They are owned by same people though.
It will be an older one then, as navicore was bought by them some time ago. Im not sure when they consolidated brands though. I also have an old version of navicore, really didnt like it.
Looking forward to the new version though.
5 minutes ago they were still different.
The Navicore version suffered same sort of problems as early Maps with internal screen keys/shortcuts not wonderful.
If the new version sorts these problems (and others) then it could be quite good.
The main pain I had with Navicore is that you have to install on an external memory card, ie take it out of phone.
Im sure they still have the old version for sale, and support it. They even still have the navicore webby, but I have been told that the new version is going to be wayfinder (the one with maps also).
Have a look at the new satnavs, you'll find them vastly improved.
The Navicore and Wayfinder products are very different. I dont know how they would make them into one product. Navicore support (has a wayfinder email adress though) haven't responded to my email but they normally take two days to do so.
After very slow exchange of emails with Wayfinder/Navicore they say there will be two products: Wayfinder Navigator and Wayfinder Navigator Online. No dates though.
