Just a quick note to say that Modaco has information that hints that TomTom 7 might be coming to PocketPC and they seem to imply that it isn't just going to be a preinstalled version (although they don't quote their source, as far as I can see).
The thread I linked to also has news that they have also been given the go-ahead to purchase TeleAtlas.
I don't really see why they would release for PocketPC without also releasing on Symbian - isn't the level of piracy about the same between the platforms?
The level of piracy on the PPC is worse actually.
With S60V3 standard, without knowledge of hacking the ROM (C: Drive access) or self signed certificates, it makes software very hard to get (even with legit software with lazy-a$$ed programmers who cant be bothered to symbian sign it).
PPC can run just about any exe made for it and hence why it is ripe for viruses. where's a virus for the S60V3?? hmmm..
😊 Interestingly, when I frequented the WM forums more often (I've had a few WM devices, some of which required signed applications before being unlocked), they used to say the same about Symbian, as there were no "real" viruses for WM, but had been a fair few for Symbian (although I think that was pre-V3).
I've never personally seen any virus for either platform, but with all the information people put on their devices, it's bound to become more common.

Good find.
If thats the case then there really is little case for not releasing a symbian version.
Only thing I can think of is that they dont want to fight nokias effort into the market (navteq and maps). But that doesnt make any sense to me, why hand over the symbian platform on a plate? Everyone here knows that a new release of tomtom would most likely trounce nokia maps, version 1 and 2.
I dont know, companies mystify me sometimes.
Well, if it isn't released for S60, it can only be to prevent war against Nokia. Personally I think the reason only PPC is mentioned is that modaco is a MS-related site, so they don't find S60 relevant.
If TomTom really do get released for S60, I will buy it and hang on to my McGuider too. This really could be the battle of the century and I can't wait to see what happens. Either way, we the users will be the winners 😊
Hee, yeah that'd be a bloody good fight.
Thought I have to say I veer towards tomtom, assuming the mapshare is included.
Mapshare has always appealed to me, because its usually much better than waiting for new maps.
Having said that, sygic will obviously beat tomtom hands down in price.
However, until I see something from tomtom, Im not going to get excited much.
Bear in mind that we havent actually seen *anything* from tomtom. They havent announced anything yet, not even the HTC version, thats from another site.
