The N-Gage platform has now been officially launched for several weeks, but which phones are people actually using it on? Take part in our survey and let us know which N-Gage-compatible model you use to access the service.
Read on in the full article.
What's with all consistent n-gage news daily. It seems you guys are being paid to promote it. Nokia can never hit it on gaming platform. Please come back to regular symbian news/tips/reviews.
N-Gage is a Symbian platform, it only runs on Symbian phones, that's why we cover it.
I'm sorry if you think we've got the balance wrong, we'll try to look at this more carefully in the future. Bear in mind though that news on these topics happen seasonally, and at the moment there's much more happening in the N-Gage world than the rest of the Symbian world. That will change at the end of the summer as there's a whole raft of new Symbian devices due out by then.
Incidentally, we're not being 100% positive in the N-Gage coverage, we've published editorials talking about its flaws, and we've given N-Gage games bad reviews too.
We've tried to keep most of the N-Gage-related stories confined to our sister site All About N-Gage, but now and then (especially if it's related to a major original article) we put the same newspost on both sites.
It seems you guys are being paid to promote it.
Believe me we're not. We don't even get review copies of the games.
Guys, ignore Mr.Patel - don't take his opinion as representative of the majority. NGage is critical to Symbian and Nokia (who should be almost synonymous with Symbian coverage in practice I'd say) and I think you get the balance just right - we definitely need to hear about it.
As for Mr.Patel's opinion on it - I think he'll be shocked to discover it's almost inevitable that NGage will be the biggest gaming platform out there in terms of numbers by a long, long way - bigger than consoles or the PC market.
As for me, I'm NOT using NGage on my 6120 Classic, for obvious reasons 😞
I have to agree with "unregistered" the balance is just right. Keep it just the way it is. I am sure that the majority of AAS readers would be interested in relevant N-Gage news on AAS.
I can say that I haven't noticed a lot of N-Gage coverage, as it has only just become available on a wider range of handsets I would expect more coverage. I have been looking for more information.
I can't understand Mr Patel's suggestion at all.
I am not interested in what Mr. Patel has to say but I am curious if anyone is really playing games on their phones? It seems like a waste. I just can't see it: Maybe I am wrong but I find phone gaming a bit lame.
As for reporting what the industry is doing, by all means continue.

The fact that there are hundreds of millions of dollars changing hands in the phone game industry is testament to the fact that, yes, a lot of people do indeed play games on their phones.
Why would phone gaming be any more "lame" than console gaming? Playing a game on a modern smartphone isn't really any different to playing it on a gameboy, and they've been around for twenty years now. Well-designed phone games are great fun, things have moved on since the crude and nasty Java titles of yesteryear.
Of course you might find console gaming a waste too, which is a perfectly fair point of view. 😉
You say N-Gage mobile gaming is no different from Gameboys which have have been around for 20 years, which implies that N-Gage is 20 years out of date?
N-Gage games on Symbian are certainly nowhere near the PSP/DS for sophistication, nor is the D-Pad interface as good as the dedicated gaming controls you get on a handheld console. In fact the D-Pad is a proverbial pain in the butt. But, the cost of N-Gage titles is about half the cost of the cheaper DS games and far less than PSP.
The place for N-Gage is on the converged device, where a user might find themselves with time to kill at an airport or whatever and can use the handset for entertainment.
The only N-Gage game I have installed is the football one that was given away in the lst couple of weeks. It's alright for 5 minutes now and then.

Erm... that's like saying electricity generation has been around for 200 years so it's 200 years out of date.

So you're telling us that all N-Gage games are lame and a waste of time, but you've only bothered trying FIFA?
Maybe you should try the games actually written for N-Gage such as Creatures Of The Deep, System Rush and Mile High Pinball before passing judgement on the entire platform.
And as I keep saying at the launch of every new gaming system, give it a year first. It always takes at least one year before you see any gaming platform at its best.
What is the point of N-Gage, Nokia failed when they tried to merge a portable game console with a phone and now they are trying it again.
If you want to play quailty games get something like a GBA emulator and run it on your smartphone, a N95 can easily run them at full speed.
Playing games like Advance Wars, Orge Tactics, Pokemon etc sure beats all the made for phone games out there and would also rival the amount of games as well.

They're not trying to merge consoles with phones, this isn't gaming hardware. They're putting games on a range of phones that people are buying anyway as phones.

...and which N-Gage games have you actually played?

If you like those turn-based games, it seems like Rifts for the first generation of N-Gage would have suited you just fine. It's a very good game. Being turn-based games, relatively clunky controls doesn't really matter either.
Unfortunately there's no such title on the current N-Gage platform, but hopefully it will happen eventually. After all, it's a very new platform and launch games are usually relatively poor.
Oh, and seeing how the N-Gage platform is a new thing and recently released, it's no wonder there's a fair amount of news about it.

The upcoming game Reset Generation (aka Project White Rock) is a turn-based strategy, though I know it doesn't look like one from the screenshots. 😊
It's made by the same people who did Pathway To Glory and High Seize on the original N-Gage, which were traditional turn-based strategy game:

And another turn-based strategy is the upcoming Worms World Party:

And unlike anything on the GBA, both these games include online multiplayer so you're playing against real people instead of AIs.

Yep, those nuclear power stations built in 1808 are still going strong I see.
The difference between a Gameboy Color and a PSP or DS Lite is plain to see, I don't understand your crass response at all. The market has to move on in order to regenerate itself. Or we would all be happy with that original old 2d tennis thing with the rotary controllers and the sliding bat.
And no, I haven't dismissed all N-Gage games, I've tried various demos thanks. I was only describing my own personal use of games, not implying anything in general. Each to his own. I wasn't trying to be contentious, I even pointed out the price difference between PSP and NGage games.
Why so defensive and ready to jump down throats?

Well, you said phone games were lame and a waste of time, and wondered if anyone was really playing them.
I'm not sure what you expected the response to be after posting those kinds of comments in a phone games thread. Maybe you might try posting in an iPod thread that portable music players are a waste of time, and see what kind of reaction that brings?
I wasn't trying to get personal, just explaining why I disagreed.
