A word of advice, don't use 3 as a telecoms provider. My e71 spends 90% of its life with zero signal, absolutely nothing.. much worse than my n95 8Gb. Speaking to 3 is a complete waste of time and they are complete waste of space. Total lack of interest on their part. Have read a lot on the net about e71 and the signal issues but they seem so much worse with 3. Anyone else having issue with signal quality on this beautiful device ?

Nokia service is least bothered about the issue and are not ready to give a replacement.

These phones have been given to everyone in my office, and I am pleased to announce that this has won the accolade of �The worst phone I have ever used in my life�.
This is based on features like terrible email integration with Exchange, a keyboard designed for people who have fingers shaped like that of a pixie, application response times that make the original SPV on the first ever windows mobile device look fast, graphics on the home screen clock that are comparable to a BBC computer from 1985, a battery life which on standby lasts about as long as a viagra, and most importantly beeping every 10 mins for no reason at all, so that when you go to unlock the screen phone (which is again deigned to super fast pixies) there is no message at all.
All in all if you want a large heavy phone, that will damage your productivity and state of mind, or want to buy a phone for someone you really hate, then go no further, this is the perfect phone.
This is just the worst cell phone I ever head. I used some kind of windows based Samsung smartphone many years ago and even that piece of crap was better than Nokia e71. This phone is absolutely counter-intuitive. The only good think I can say opf it is that it's a gift from my wife and that's why I didn't throw it out of my window the very day I got it.
The only way to get how to do 80% of things on this shitty piece of metal is to query Google, but no way getting it from the interface itself.
I was using SE k750i and it annoyed me to death with it's absolutelly unreliable charger. But even though it's not smartphone at all it's much much better phone than this useless shit - Nokia e71.
DON'T BUY IT!!! Buy something else.

I bought the Nokia E71 less than one year. Recently, it shuted off automatically. I sent it to service center, and found that my phone has hardware issue and need to send it back to headquarter for part repair. Up till now, it has been 3 weeks and I have not gotton my phone return. According to service center, my phone is still under repair. I will not recommend anyone to get E71.
Will this phone sync with the business network, including Outlook email, contacts, calendar and notes? Many will do all but 'notes' and this is critical for us because all our emergency procedures live in 'notes'.

I read your entire post and I think Steve's attending the launch event today, so he's not around, hence his normal replies on phone issues isn't as fast today. Rest assured when he's back I'm sure that he'll address them as best he can in the meantime, the screen resolution is always a strange one - I do remember feeling a bit depressed when the jump from 176x208 to QVGA didn;t give me more info on the screen, just nicer fonts thanks to more pixels - the pixel density may be bigger but the physical screen sie is still the limit IMO.
I bought E-71 after reading all the reviews. I am totally disappointed, it does not have a standby talktime of 10.30 hours, it gets dust under the screen every 2 weeks and has to be cleaned at the nokia care centre or else the warranty becomes void, it has the poorest loudspeaker/speaker phones, it is too think to hold and slips, it hangs for no reason, it takes too long to disconnect a phone, overall the most USELESS buy for $300. One should try samsung corby, or htc, or other competitors, BUT NOT NOKIA. The after sales service and the company and dealers response is pathetic. I deeply regret buying one in September 09, and now the prices have fellen twice and so the price is now down by 40%. USELESS NOKIA, you will regret.
I bought in Sep09, and easily this is the worst phone I have bought. The most horrifying after sale service at nokia care. For all my phones I have used, there was never a need to visit care centre, but after E-71 i had to visit twice. I am planning to drag the agent to the consumer court and give him some bit of trouble for cheating me into buying this phone. I wrote to netherlands, and got a sick reply. they are not bothered. wicked company NOKIA and its shit products. stop buying them.

After i select the gallery from media. i want to view my images. but the problem occur when i view it. it only show 1 picture whereas I've got lot of different pictures. For example i got 5 different pictures. it only show one of the pictures with duplicated 5 times. anyone help me?
I hate this phone and the fault is the software. It is plagued with problems that require it to be rebooted. The camera can�t be used because it�s locked by another application. It has stupid unnecessary prompts like �Password Accepted!� that keep me from using the phone. OVI sync software put all my personal appointments on my wifes outlook calendar. Keyboard auto lock doesn�t always work. I can go on and on.
I�ve asked for help from Nokia and have gotten nothing. It is shameful. I bought this phone because it had good features for the price. I sure got what I paid for.
Saving money for a Blackberry. My experience is their software works.

n it shut down with out permission, i can't turn on my N71 anymore...

thanks for the review, i just got the nokia E71 and my dad is just bringing it home. I was choosing it between the LG xenon because they were the only 2 for the plan for unlimited txting, but after looking at the reviews of the LG, (which was pretty bad by the way; no recommendations) i decided to get this nokia.
I already have a nokia, but its prepaid and very very very old, so i wanted to switch, but you got me here....it sounds to-tally ah-mazing!

I purchased the E81 around a mounth ago, and i have falle in love with it in every way, i am very picky with my phones, but this phone is brilliant! I was expecting an iphoe for my birthda , and i hate to say it but i was slightly disapointed whe i opened the Nokia instead of the iphone but now i prefer the nokia to the iphone. Extremly good buy well proud!
