Keep yer N95s

Nope, I like my keys, and various programs. Streets of rage 2 is just far too much fun.

Course, soon I'll be able to play it on the TV. 😃

Nope. I did want to have Upnp but there we go.

One thing I dont understand, is why its so cheap compared to the N series, which is a large factor in me buying it. But not the only one:

I like the form factor and size.

It has xenon

It has 5mp cam

It has GPS

It has 'normal' buttons (not like the N82 or N78). If it wasnt for the buttons, I would have strongly considered a black N82. So out of every single phone out (and upcoming), its by far the best choice for me. Aside from wireless, I know some will miss the larger screen and slider. But the screen is the same size as my current phone, so thats not going to bother me.

And a bonus is that the 6xxx range has always proven extremely reliable for me.

Its cheaper than the N78, yet the only thing the N78 has over it is wifi and FM transmitter. Its only got a 3.2 cam, and no lens cover or xenon flash.

Does the N series name mean you pay a bit more? Or is wifi just really expensive to add?

Im just so intriged by how close this is (specwise) to nokias current flagship phone. Admittedly the N96 is out very soon (though is that really the new flagship phone?).

I must admit, thats a pretty decent price for that spec, and certainly looks the part.

I'ts the missus' b-day soon, I might pick one up and find every excuse to use the camera... can't beat xenon flash 😊

Nokia like to have their small, kinda secret phones at convincing prices. I don't know why, but the E50, the 6120c and now the 6220c are all in that categori. You don't get wifi and you don't get any new technology, but you get yesteryears hitech at very low prices.

I've had the E50 as a backup mobile, the missus now has the 6120c as her main phone. Right now I an considering this 6220c as her next phone.

Way to go, Nokia 😊

I wouldnt call it yesteryears tech, you could say that about almost anything bar the DVB on the N96. Whats fantastic (and makes it very new tech) is that its all in one, which is what made the N95 so amazing. And now its gone on a huge diet.

N95:
Volume: 96 cc
Weight: 128 g
Length(max): 99 mm
Width(max): 53 mm
Thickness(max): 21 mm

6220C:
Volume: 70 cc
Weight: 90g
Dimensions: 108mm x 46.5mm x 15.2mm

Phonewise, a 5mp cam with xenon is pretty new.

As an interesting comparision, heres some prices from play, all simfree.

6220C = 259.99

N95 classic = 279.99

N95 8GB = 389.99

N78 = 299.99

N96 = 599.99 (oouuuccchhh)

But the biggest suprise for me, is the TV out on the 6220C. While Im certainly glad they included it, Im very confused as to why. Thats something I would have thought they would keep N series only.

Nice tip, I like the look esp for my Missus. Like Unplugged, I still have 11 months on my N95 with O2. Thats plenty of time for N95 successor to be released and level off in price through O2 Retentions. I can't see any personal need for DVB-H, so N96 isn't a straight forward consideration.

Maybe miss the LED tally for video recodings as the Xenon wouldn't be able to do this?

True, but I cant see much call for me to video in the dark (no comments here please 😉 ).

I think thats of limited use though, surely the light doesnt reach far enough? Especially outdoors.

Spec wise it is a copy of the N95, which appeared early last year. Back then it was new technology, but to call it anything but yesteryears tech today would include a lot of messing around with semantics. Only thing new over the now rather old N95 is the flash, but that too is from lasts year’s models.

I mean nothing negative in calling it yesteryears tech, just stating a fact. There's also no doubt that this is the reason for the low price, because Nokia didn't have to develop anything new. Just put all the pieces together in a new package and sell it again. The result is bound to be one of the biggest mobile hits of the summer, just as N95 was last year, due to the small size and amazing price. Now everyone is invited to the party 😊

The only real problem with this device is convincing the missus that she really needs a new device! She'd still be using a 3310 if it weren't for me 😊

Its about good for making people look red in the dark when doing extreme closeups

Dont worry, Im immune to critisim of my (future) phone, I always stick to facts rather tha blindly defending a device, or taking insult because I own it. 😉

Your right, its semantics, but I beleive its a high tech phone because its got all the latest (if a year or 2 old) tech in it, and its in a very small package. You can get phones with wifi, you can get phones with 5mp cams, but you can get *nothing* with all the 6220C has the same size.

And as I have said before, its exactly that which makes nokia so good. And I simply love convergance devices, cept Im so shafted if I lose my phone.

Its quite amusing when people ridicule me on how much my phones cost.

'Your paying 260 for a PHONE?!?'

'Yes, how much was your digital camera?'

'About 100.'

'I see. How much was your satnav?'

*They can see where this is going*

'Ah...about 100.'

'And you either paid 100 for your phone or you have it on a 30+ a month contract which I'll get for peanuts since I wont be getting a handset with it.'

'But my camera is better.'

'Yes, but do you have it on you all the time, like your mobile?'

It is quite amusing. Best bit is when they start saying things like -

'So where did you get yours from?'

I have the N95 and it's a great phone, and for the odd photo and, yes, the odd route, it's useful.

However, the camera is not as responsive as my digital camera, and the sat nav isn't as good as my Tom Tom Go. For starters I can't put a postcode in. So whilst, in theory, I could get rid of my digital camera and Sat Nav, there's no way I would because those features are not as good as purpose made items in the way I need to use them.

I am just using the Nokia maps version. I don't have Tom Tom on the N95, because, well, you have to pay for it and that rather defeats the object of what the original poster is suggesting.

Unless someone knows where you can get Tom Tom for free on N95?

No, piracy is not allowed on these forums.

The nokia maps app does full postcodes, as long as you allow it to connect.

I was the OP, and suggested nothing of the sort 😉

I wasn't suggesting Piracy, just wondered if it was available as freeware anywhere!

And I always allow Nokia Maps to connect, but on my N95 (UK) there is no option to put in a postcode, unless someone can advise where it is input?

Edit: I've just noticed, where it says city, it says City/Zip....Flippin heck, you learn something new every day...Thanks!

... why not go for the N82, like I did... the N82 is THE Nokia Smartphone...

You forget which one I actually have 😉

But Id consider it an upgrade anyway, would just be losing wifi.

Given the choice between N82 and 6220c I would go for the 6220c. Never liked the look of the N82 and O2 stopped selling it a few months ago and it had only been out since late last year. I can live without wi-fi as i can only use it at home anyway, use my PC instead. Great looking phone - will be selling my N95 8gb when contract up soon and going for this.
