N95 Factory reset catch 22

8 replies · 13,670 views · Started 28 June 2008

My phone crashed and now it seems to be stuck on symbol mode. When I try to enter any # codes (like typing a phone number) only the * key works. When I try to text all keys work but only symbols are used and I cant use # to scroll to text mode it types a tilde ~.

I would like to do a factory reset but I cant type the # code or go to settings > etc > factory reset. it asks for the lock code but the lock code fails as I think it is typing symbols.

Bit of a hard one to describe but any help would be appreciated to get a factory reset.

Cheers

What about the 3 key method?

Hold down the number "3 key", the "*" key, and the "Green call key" Whilst holding those three keys down, press and hold the power button, all at the same time, until the date displays on the phones screen.

Mmm - could have been a winner, but I cant get it to work. Tried holding 3 keys while turning the phone on and holding them until phone fully on. Also tried it turning the phone off

yup, tried that. I might have to take it in to the shop to see if it can be repaired. Although the 3 finger reset would have been good if I could have got that working.

I'm not too sure about it as I never tried it, but doesn't NSS have an option to reset to factory? I'm absolutely positive I saw these options in the software, but never tried them. Maybe you could go that way before you RMA it?

I would have recommended the hard reset (3,*,Green whilst powering on)...

... however as this did not work, I would recommend re-applying the latest Firmware using NSU.

If the problem persists after a FW flash, then you must have a hardware fault and need to have the handset repaired at an NCC.

Not sure, but I believe the 3-finger reset has to be done while the device is already ON? Won't test it for you, though 😉

The 3-finger reset has to be done with the device off, and the three keys pressed down, and then while they are still pressed down, power the phone on.
