Not Finding Satellites

4 replies · 2,438 views · Started 14 September 2008

When I use Nokia maps, it never finds the satellites and therefore can never tell me my position. This happened before I upgraded to V30 so I don't think it's that. Although it might have happened after updating to the latest Nokia maps, but in saying that I'm sure it went off on the previous Nokia maps. It also doesn't work on the other GPS application where you put your position etc.

If I use Google maps, that will find my position.

Any ideas? Sorry if this has been raised before, I couldn't find it.

Try this:-

Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Positioning > Positioning methods Make sure Assisted GPS, Integrated GPS and for good luck, Network based are ticked.

Then go back one level and select Positioning server and select Access point and then Server address which is:-

supl.nokia.com

Then go to maps and with the keypad open and out of doors, with a clear view of the sky, leave your phone and have a cup of tea/coffee, a beer, make love, etc: after about 20 mins or less your phone should have it's intial lock and have downloaded a brief map of the surrounding area.

You are now ready to connect your phone to your computer and download any maps you require via Nokia Maps.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks....

Well it was all like that apart from the access point wasn't set to t-mobile internet, which I changed to reflect that. Then when I opened Nokia maps it came up with a red dot which I've not seen before, which I presume was my location. It was a little way off though, about 500 meters I think as the crow flies. It's just on the window sill now. I've got (as I had before) one yellow bar flashing, but that's all at the moment....I'll give it half an hour!

the red dot that was way out is actually network lock bassed on the mobile network transmitters. thats why it can be off alot of times. the satelites should then get the position accurate. soungs like maybe you got a problem with GPS module inside your handset ? take to nokia repair center. it can take between 3 seconds and 5 minutes to find a satelite lock though.

I thought as much. I might not bother taking it in, as I'll probably be passing the N95 to my partner once I get my upgraded phone. She's not likely to use the maps application.
