N95 camera probelms any advice?

Just brought a Nokia N95 2nd hand..everything seems to work fine apart from when you use the camera...
Takes a perfect picture if you don't use the zoom, but as soon as you start zooming the picture gets worse and worse...
On full zoom the picture is completely out of focus it does try to auto focus but picture is basically crap...

Its not a massive problem just can only use the camera without using the zoom..

Can anybody shed any light or had a simliar problem or is it something i'm just going to have to live with???

Sorry, this isn't any help (but may explain your issue).

Digital zoom (the only zoom available on the n95) is pretty much useless. It's the equivalent of cropping a large picture, then scaling it up to the full screen with some filters to blur the pixel boundaries (i.e. you get no more detail than was in the small picture).

It's probably better to take an unzoomed picture then post-process it (either on the PC or just cropping the picture to the section you want to zoom in on with the built in image editor on the phone).

I agree. The digital zoom is pretty much a waste. Manipulate the shot in photo editing software on a pc if you need to do anything.

Forget zooming.
Use the camera for what it is which a fairly good quality 5MB with no real special features except it has great video and, most importantly, its always with you.

you CANNOT zoom with the n95 camera because it is digital zoom only, so its pointless. its the same as taking a regular photo, then opening it on your computer and zooming way in. basically the n95 CPU is digitally zooming in on the pic when you use the zoom button, rather than truly zooming in with an optical lens. the n95 has no optical zoom lens. so dont zoom in, EVER, with it, because its pointless!!!

Actually, you say about the digital zoom being useless, but actually, if you do use the zoom, it might look pretty crap when you're taking the photo, but when you see the photo when it's taken, it's not really that bad I don't think.

this might be somewhat true, but still, why ever use digital zoom when you can just take the pic without zooming to get the full view, and then just load the pic on your computer and crop out the rest of the pic?

to the OP, basically the n95 has digital zoom, not an optical lens, so all the camera is doing is the same thing as cropping away the rest of the picture and zooming in on the center of the picture, hence it looks lower quality.
