WLAN always asking me to connect

5 replies · 11,918 views · Started 06 October 2008

After I switch my phone on, I get a message asking me to select my WLAN connection.

Because I want to save my battery, I press cancel. After a few seconds the message reappears, asking me to select a WAN connection.

I suppose an application is calling on the WLAN connection to be set up. Any ideas on what it might be?

Hi TheOnlyRick,

I read your post and immediately realised what a clever, warm and fantastically good-looking person you must be.

Anyway, the answer is that you have an unsent email in your outbox. That is what keeps on trying to dial out.

This answer leads to another question (of course)...

How do I tell my N96 to automatically connect to a specific WLAN, (if available?)

Cheers,

The only TheOnlyRick

I think you have to be specific in the default you choose, so if you've saved your home wireless connection then it'll connect to that, then you have to setup priorities on each connection after that.

So

1: Home wifi
If not available
2: Work wifi
If not available
3: GPRS

I don't think you can specifc it to use any available connection, you have to tell it to check in a paticular order.

I assume you do this buy going to Settings > Connections > Destinations > Internet and choosing the priorities from the saved or past connections in there.....don't quote me on this though.

J2theIZZO,

I just came across this post - it seems I didn't reply to you.

You were right, and the Settings menu path took me there!

Cheers,

Richard

What internet based programs did you install recently? Nokia Messaging, image exchange? Ovi Share? Fring? Shazam?

These are the most common to pester you.
You set your WLAN as priority over your Operator settings? Right?

I can't remember what the app was that wanted wifi - probably push mail on Mail for Exchange, or Profimail (top app, by the way!).

On some apps you can select a particular access point or destination to be used, (eg in Web, you can choose 'Change connection'.)

On some apps you can't select an access point or destination (eg Sync). What access point *do* they use?

Does it just work down all the access points in alphabetical order?
Does it use the 'Internet' destination?

Does anyone know how to change it?

Cheers, Richard
