Opera wont work! Pls help!

45 replies · 8,218 views · Started 14 February 2003

I have been looking forward to this. So after seeing that Opera is now available, the first thing i did was to downlaod it. I was able to install it to my fone without a problem. But when i try to use it, it wont work. I tried using the old P800 browser and it works fine, but not when using Opera. Am i missing somethng here? Is there a way i can use Opera as the preferred browser? Pls help. I am dieing to try this product 😊

Hmm..The Opera browser should work with the same settings as the built-in browser. Are you able to browse "real" www. pages with the built-in browser(not just WAP)?

No, you cannot set Opera to be the default browser, but you can however change the top-bar globe icon to the Opera icon and tap that to start browsing with Opera.

Cheers

Tnx for the reply raven. i just did that, changing the top bar menu to opera but still it wont work. and yes i am able to browse www pages using the built in browser through my gprs account. and this is killing me coz i really wanna try opera 😞

Strange.... So what exactly happens when you start Opera? Do you get some sort of error message, if so, what does it say?

When i start opera, it takes a while to load coz i installed it in my MS card. Then the screen open ups, just like the standard browser. then i try to open a page and type the www address. then it asks me the kind of connection i want, so i highlight my preferred gprs account like what i always do with the built in browser. then it says i am connected on the top right portion (the blue bar). and then the globe icon shows up meaning i have successffully connected to my server, but thats just it. i cant open any pages. it only show a blank screen

Wierd.... So you can't load any page at all? Have you tried uninstalling it, and reinstall again?

Raven ,
The New Opera Browser Does not Support WAP Gateways .... Only GPRS and Dialup HS.... is Able to Browse full WWW pages .... GPRS is fast and Cool ... what i am using is a Dialup on a Regualar internet Account with a 9.6 Kbps ..... it's Analog ... Slow ... hotmail or yahoo did'nt Load ...it may be the Connection ... some other sites like google .. and some others i did open .. but the others r Too Slow or Unable to open with my Connection Prefrenses
... i will just use my Old WAP connection untill we get GPRS in this Country
then try to browse what i need to browse ...
do u think my Connection Speep is the LAG of Loading these Sites ( yahoo , hotmail , msn , any large size web pages !?

I know that it doesn't support wap gateways, that's why I asked if he could browse www pages in the built-in browser, to check if he had the right settings to use with Opera..

Anyways, I never use dialup, but I've heard others having some problems downloading some sites and not everything on a site using dialup..

So then i will keep waiting for a GPRS service to surf well on-line
using my p800 .... i am not sure if my dialup is temporarly Acting LAME on my GSM connection or is it the New "OPERA " ... did'nt they say .. that SE will put it in thair Web site in 5 days ? ... was it avalibal earlier ... ??

Cheers[/quote] I WANTED TO KNOW WHY I COULD NOT DOWNLOAD OPERA AND INSTALL IT ON MY P800 TODAY, SO I CALLED SONYERICSSON TO GET THE NECESSARY INFO AND I LEARNED THIS.
NO-1, OPERA CAN ONLY BE INSTALLED ON P800'S, WITH [ORGANIZER-CXC162001 R1F01] OR LATER FIRMWARE. AT THE SONYERICSSON SITE, IF YOU LOOK UNDER [ PRE-REQUISITES ]. YOU WILL SEE THE FIRMWARE THATS COMPATIBLE. SO GO AND CHECK YOUR FIRMWARE.
ON YOUR P800, GO TO APPLICATIONS-VIEW-SYSTEM INFORMATION-RIGHT ARROW, UNTIL YOU GET TO THE ORGANIZER. THE EARLIER P800 MODELS MAY NOT HAVE THAT FIRMWARE.
NO-2, HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE *U.S.A.* IN TWO TO THREE WEEKS.
WE WILL BE ABLE TO SEND OUR PHONES IN TO SONYERICSSON FOR THEM TO FLASH IT WITH THE LATEST FIRMWARE.
*THIS IS THE DOWNLOAD LINK*

My firmware is R1B too. Despite the numerous comments, i find it to be quite stable so far. anyway i was able to install Opera without a glitch. its in running it that i am having a problem. I just got home and have removed it from my fone. Will install it shortly. I will let you know what happens. I will keep you posted

I just removed Opera and reinstalled it. Still it woudlnt let me browse anything. Funny thing is i know i installed it correctly. I hope anyone who has encountered the same problem could help. I just contacted the local SE representative and they told me that yes, they know Opera. But no, they didnt know it was already released. And no, we dont know how to solve your problem. Duh

I think the thing i is that you may need the firmware update t get Opera to work, but you may not. These things are complex beasts and when you throw in the operator configs it may be that its works for some and not for others. I'll try and find out more.

It might be that you need to set up a new internet account just for Opera. And remember to use your operators internet settings, and not wap.

Just downloaded and installed the Opera. Suffered exactly the same problem as described by christomas. Tried dial-up and was able to surf the internet with Opera.
Reading through the various forum, I deduced that my initial GPRS settings could be passing through the WAP gateway of my telecom provider since my GPRS settings were auto configured.
So I made another GPRS internet account using settings from the telecom provider. It worked and it was fast.
Hope this helps. I also have R1B machine.

The main difference in the GPRS settings I made is with regards the access point. The access points are different for the GPRS and the WAP over GPRS.

Hmmmm. I think you may be right bonanza. I have been thing along the same line today. I will give it a try tonight. Hope i can make Opera run this time 😊

I live in malaysia and my P800 machine is R1B, I downloaded and installed Opera without any problem. Come to the real test, browsing the reall "www" pages is OK with my GPRS connection. No problem here. OPera is OK and my machine is OK. Better check your connection to the net.

I should call your Phone Provider and ask them the APN address it for the internet. EXAMPLE: here in israel its internet.orange.co.il.

That is for the GPRS connection..

Hi guys! After several days of failed attempts, I was able to successfully configure the Opera settings for Globe Telecom (Phils.), I hope this would help you:

1. Make sure you already have GPRS subscription.
2. Go to Tools> Control Panel> Connections>, Click on Internet accounts:
a. Check the Show Connection Dialog box
b. Click on: New to set up a new account
c. Name this account as: Internet, or any other name you want
d. Connection Type: GPRS
e. Click on: Advance, and input the address: [email protected],
leave everything as is and click: Done
3. Open us the Opera browser, when the connection dialog box appears,
choose Internet (not MyGlobe) or the account name that you chose.

Happy surfing with Opera!

Hi there! I was wondering if anyone would be so kind to send me their "install.log" file, I accidentally deleted my file thru File Manager. Your installation of software might be different but I'm sure most of us have almost the same software installed. Pls email me at [email protected]. Thanks!

I am also getting the same problem, I have an organizer version of R1C02. I tried ddyeo's suggestion and it still doesn't work for me, i am getting "Could not connect to remote server". Hope somebody can solve our problem. Thanks

Hi,

think I had the same Problem: No browsing with Opera.
Browsing websites with USB cable connection also didnt work. So I decided to make a Masterreset. I reinstalled Opera and tryed browsing via cable ... and it worked! GPRS Internet is also working now. I just got the config from my Provider (o2 germany) with SMS (settings for SonyEricsson t68i)

i have the same problem here in greece... it worked only 1 time... now nothing... but the built-in explorer works great... cant understand!!!! :x

I was finally able to connect to the internet using Opera. You guys were right. What i did was to call up my service provider. They guided me all the way into making a separate internet account. Tnx guys 😊

I have the seam problem installed without a glitch I have the old rom to CXC162001 R1C02 guess I will have to wait until carphone warehouse do the upgrade for 35 thing to get that upgraded in the uk.

But no luck getting to web sites I think its something to do with my gateway address problem is you end up with so many one for MMS and one for Wap and one for web difficult to know what the setting should be.

I know its using wap because the address is wap.vodafone.co.uk what do I need to do just change it to www.vodafone.co.uk???

Anyone have any ideas?
