Opera wont work! Pls help!

45 replies · 8,218 views · Started 14 February 2003

i called M1(Singapore Telco) but they are unable to help me though.
i'm having the same problem as faced by "christomas". i tired creating a new account but Opera just gave me a "Activation rejected" dialogue box.
Like christomas, my internal browser works fine... i wan Opera's small screen rendering!!! Kindly help me if any Singaporeans here on M1 who can surf using Opera.

regards

The trick jnash is not to pass through the wap. If you use wap over gprs Opera simply wont work. Thats what i found out. In my case here in the Philippines, using my service provider Globe, i used instead [email protected]. That way i was able to use opera

then i think i can't use Opera then
cos M1 is using WAP over GPRS
: (

M1 has a choice of CSD, WAP and WAP over GPRS
i tried CSD, it can get connected but wil give me a "unable to locate remote server" error.

Starhub can do it? guess i'll switch my starhub sim card to my P800

To all the guys using Globe Telecom and Opera with the P800:

After getting the P800 to work, have you suffered any problems with MMS? I seemed to have done something to cause my total inability to send out MMS. I have no problem receiving MMS and browsing via the Opera. The local SE Support is giving the reasoning that Globe still does not support the Opera browsing. Globe support via 211 does not seem to know about internet.globe.com.ph. I think the P800 users in this forum know more than they do.

Can anyone help with my failure to send out MMS?

Thanks.

I know its repeating, but just to tie it up for new readers as I got confused reading it!!

GPRS is merely a connection, and services work over that connection. Therefore you will probably have different accounts in your P800, all saying GPRS, such as MMS over GPRS, WAP over GPRS or just GPRS. If you try and use Opera with the wrong account it will not work, fo example Opera doesn't support WAP over GPRS (as in via a WAP gateway). The connection you need should allow full access to the internet, and it is probably wise to speak to your operator before changing settings, as the price may vary over each one.

I upgraded my firmware at Semicon last Monday. It's now CXC162001 R1G05. I was happy that the version is newer than what i see on the web, but when i got home and restored my phone's data (Semicon would erase all your data when you upgrade firmware, so backup before upgrading), my Opera still wouldn't work.

I posted a help reply here, but eventually found this thread for Globe users. It didn't work at first. Coz what you said [email protected] is not correct. You should use internet.globe.com.ph

Thanks for the help and hope it helps other P800 users too.

hey guys i have the same problem as christomas and the rest of you but dont know where i can get a gprs connection without going over wap or mms. i live in england and am on vodafone.

help, please

Wow this is a very old post, oh well have a couple of questions too:

The reason why Im posting this is that everybody seems to say they can surf normally using the built in browser and that they can go to all "www" or html sites.

@christomas and to anyone:

I can already surf through my built in browser using WAP over gprs and I can also surf using Opera using the internet.globe.com.ph or when attached to the cradle.

Since Globe charges us for using the "internet.globe.com.ph" I dont use it that much. Now, my problem is I cant surf on some ordinary sites when I use the built in browser. For example:
1.) I cant go in the Sony Ericsson link on the default screen of the buil it browser(the one with the SE Logo) but I can go in the SE P800 link below it. I get an "Access Denied. Technical Desrciption: 403 - You are not allowed to communicate with the requested resource" error 😞

2.)Can you try going in our website which is "www.arctech-pc.com" that is another site I cant go into 😞 I get this message "An error occured in the communication with the wap gateway. Check Wap account settings in the control panel."

When I am in Opera I can't get into WAP sites as well..

Is everyone from Globe experiencing this? Or is it just me?
I just got the R1g upgrade also.

I think you mean wap over GPRS.
Try changing the apn to ineternet.vodafone.com.uk or call your service provider and ask for you internet APN and change it to that.

I really am amazed that this string is still going. I started this the first day Opera was introroduced. All this time i thought Globe users would have already found out how to use Opera. Anyway i never had problems using my MMS. And muzik i tried going to your site and it worked on my fone. I always use my P800 in surfing the net now. Like 4 or 5 times a day. I love using it coz its free. I mean really free man. You can call Globe to confirm this. You can surf all you want, check email, send emails all for free. Their policy states that it is only when you start downloading stuff like pics, or ringtones, or software that you get billed

Im really sorry for being redundant on this 😮ops: I can also send end recieve email without any problems.

What just confuses me is that I cannot surf on all ordinary sites when using the built browser with Wap over GPRS connection. example:
www.arctech-pc.com

When using Opera I cannot open wapsites for example this site:
http://twilightwap.com/mobile/p800/index.asp

Can you someone please try this experiment on their phone?
