To save anyone else spending 3 hours trying to get ALS (Line 2) back on to their Orange Nokia N85 mobile phone after using NSS to change the Product Code from it's default value of 0577607 (fw 11.047) to something else and then loading the latest firmware (31.002) using NSU...Product code 0572869 works if you already had ALS!!!!.....Phew

The hash key doesn't work to change between line 1 and Line 2 but you can change line by going Tools - Settings - Phone - Call - Line in use.

My exact steps were...

1) I took to a service centre to replace front cover of phone and they said we can also upgrade your firmware for you if you want, I said yes please. They then tried and said becuase your phone is branded Orange it is restircted to their firmware which is a year old at version 11.047, however if you want we can unbrand it and put the latest firmware version 31.002 on it for you, I said yes please...

2) I got out the shop, got home, tried to change to line 2 and found the hash key just toggles silent profile on/off, I tried to change line by going thorugh the menu but found the option had gone. I went to profiles and found that line 2 was no longer an entry in any of the profiles, help!!!!

3) Called service centre and had a LONG phone call with them. I learnt about product codes and was told it was not possible to go back to my old orange firmware, help!!!

4) After hours on the internet I found out how to use NSS and NSU to change the phones product code and firmware

5) 0560568 (Euro 1) was the one set by the service centre - NO ALS support

6) I tried 0569334 (CTR UK & IRELAND COPPER) no ALS support (very worried by now)

7) I tried 0572869 (phones4U UK) and horray ALS support although # key still toggles silent mode.

Not sure if it was neccesaary but after installing the firmware I did a hard reset (enter *#7370# and the default lock code is 12345 unless you changed it).

Hope that saves someone the hours I have just spent.

Note: This is only for people that had ALS and lost it after changing Product Code and changing firmware. If you are wondering what ALS (line 2) is and are thinking of adding it to your phone then from what I read elsewhere, it is not possible to add ALS to a phone that did not already have it. The firmware updates via NSU only enable or disable it's use. If ALS software was not installed by Nokia themselves at the time the phone was produced I read that any NSU firmware will not give you ALS, as ALS is held in a different area of memory not affected by NSU.

Good luck,
