woot it looks pretty good look forward to hearing the review
By the way, don't worry if it seems to take a long time to install! 😊
Just having a quick go, this looks absolutely amazing.
The 3D is totally smooth, and the backgrounds are incredibly detailed.
I assume this isn't even using the 3D chip as the new SDK isn't available yet?
Whether it is using a chip or not, these graphics are EASILY good enough for a phone game. I can't see anyone disappointed by paying 10 euros for this, at least as far as the graphics go.
This game genre isn't my cup of tea though, so I can't comment on the gameplay however. Ewan should be bringing us the review at some point.
your correct its not using 3d chip
i read interview with devs when the next SDK is released there may be free upgrade for ppl with phones what have a chip.
A long awaited title. I am looking forward to having a go at the demo. Nearly all good n-gage games are from Nokia publishing, as is this game. That looks promising. Only the StarWars game is quite good for a third party publishing company.
Finally the most anticipated title launches for N-Gage. BTW, what's the size? And what about multiplayer and other connected features? I hope they have retained the local multiplayer.
Long awaited!? Since this title was first announced, the universe has turned, galaxies have been born, lived and died, civilisations have been and gone, new species have evolved, lived and become nothing but fossil memories, mankind has gone from the garden of Eden to spread the world over... 😊
Yes, long awaited indeed....

3D chips in Nokia phones - winning the "Most Useless (or Unused) Piece of Silicon Award" for several years running! 😉 (Expected to win the title for another year or two at least)
Looks great, have to download the trial the minute I get to my home wifi (no US 3G bands on my N82.. 😞 ). And gotta love the "rrrrroooaarr" music on the trailer. Reminds me of my teenage years long gone.. 😃
You wait 40 days for a game then in a week you get two! I guess it would be the second game to get the mega game award of aan.

Heh, thanks for making me smile. I think I've given up explaining why the absence of 3D chips in recent phones is no real loss (except if you play Global Racer a lot).
No loss for existing titles, certainly.
The graphics for ONE are great for a mobile phone. They've done a sterling job. But if you look at the graphics for this release of ONE, they are clearly downgraded from the original videos that were shown, and having to hand-optimise the engine for non-hardware accelerated phones was no doubt one of the causes leading to the delay.
Have you seen comments from developers on iPhone about how quickly they managed to get games up and running on it? Most developers don't want to have to hand-code the rasterising API for the devices (I know that I have not handcoded a rasterising API for any of my 3D software since ~1996 and would hate to have to go back and waste time hand-coding them per-platform).
actually that video looworse than the final game the characters look square and blocky
the released version is more polished
I can't believe this game has full 3D with a detailed scenery, shadows, and lighting in the characters, all with no 3D acceleration. WTF? What are the others developers doing? Bring me more of this and stop wasting my time with Java ports and casual crap.
Nearly all good n-gage games are from Nokia publishing, as is this game. That looks promising.
Well, to some extent that's because Nokia is the only publisher who has spent years making games for the new platform (COTD development began in 2005, as did Reset Generation), and because they have the biggest incentive to put lots of resources into their titles.
For third party publishers to match them, N-Gage needs a huge userbase so that they have their incentive: massive sales.
That's why embedding the app in as many phones as possible is so important, it's the best way of increasing the userbase, which means better third party games.
Is it correct that landscape mode is not supported on e.g. N82?? At least the free trial appears not to.. 😞 I would think they could have easily done that by using the volume rocker key for actions and the d-pad for directions.. bummer.
ps. Oh the AAS commenting system... I see comments there are 15 comments.. but no numbering on them.. and "see full thread" at the bottom.. takes me to the first comment again.. click through to last page.. only to realise I had already seen the last one (but did not realise as I did not bother to count that it was indeed the 15th and last comment).. please Rafe, Steve, please, finally revamp your site UI!! 😃
ps.2. AAS is still BY FAR the best Symbian site, hands down, no competition whatsoever in my view.
Rafe, Tzer2 you cant get wise with people who simply want the best from their phone hardware. We all favour things that are more attractive- we do it every day- Food, cars, partners.. So why should a game be any different? I prefer things that are easier on the eye dont u? Hugh Heffner does! 😉
'One' looks and plays really well so far, but all the while I know my N95's not playing its graphical A-game. Its like a giant holding a rowdy midget at arms length with his fingertip whilst yawning.
Many people arent fussy about decent graphics as u (ironically) point out at the end of nearly every single article up here, but remember that, at its most primal level, many of us prefer looking at things that are nicer to look at.. Common sense really! Especially if u know 4th & 5th gear havent been used in a game u'd been promised would on day 'One'.
Well done to Digital Legends for producing a fantastic game. Please may we definitely have an update after the next SDK is released 😊
@Bonodo, I totally agree with you.
People keep saying that the 3D chip is useless, and everybody knows that's not true, IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE, it's a completely different story the fact that they don't use it. And you can't convince my eyes into the idea that a game that does not use the 3D HWA looks pretty much the same, and that the screen is too small to notice anything. Wouldn't you (and by You I mean everybody here that keeps saying what I mentioned before) preffer System Rush Evolution to be more like the DEMO version of the game, which puts the 3D chip to a good use?. Imagine how good would look ONE if it were HWA 3D, if it looks this good without it. Best regards.
Exactly, & I challenge anybody with HWA to download Quake2 & compare the Opengl (accelerated) version with the software rendered version (u can turn it on and off). The difference is astounding. Doesn't make any difference on a phone screen? Try it.
So Fireseed, quite right, 'One', & System Rush, & everything else, look good already. But what they potentially COULD look like is what's important.
I find being bullied into accepting that graphical mediocrity is the same as visual splendour abhorrent. I have eyes. I can see it's nowhere near as good.
'EASILY good enough for a phone game'.
My N95's no phone Sir, it's a ruddy powerful connected, location aware PC in the palm of my hand capable of some remarkable things. Its true graphical potential left unexploited. I can hear the poor thing crying at night on my bedside table.
"But (sob) I have (sniffle) so much to (sob) gggive!"
Nobody's saying better graphics would change the world. It would just be preferred as people like prettier things in life, & HWA makes games look much better, 'even' on a 'phone' screen.
Simple, that's it. Getting the most out of our hardware is important to a lot of AAN readers so rather than telling us we're all wrong all the time, how's about giving us a big smile & a bit of Bob Marley 😊
Again massive congrats to Digital Legends. Outstanding gameplay & a superb effort at software rendering 😊
the 3D hw debate as been done to death
it's getting boring seeing every thread and article being hijacked and took off topic by it .
no opinion ever changes and most have same view so ya'll need to be taking your views to nokia instead
viipottaja - yes I cringe at the comments system too. Use not to be a problem as comment threads didn't get that long. It is something I want to fix as soon as possible (being saying that for a while though. As a minimum I want to paginate the comments so you can see them all easily. I'd also like the ability to add comments from a form on the news / article page (i.e. not have to go into the forums), but would be curious as to what you think would be the ideal system?
Bonobo, Fireseed (and others) - I agree with you that graphically pleasing is better - no doubt about that at all - people prefer it. I'd love to see games that took full advantage of the hardware. However as you say its not used and yes its a completely different story. The point I try to make is that therefore not having it (in recent devices) is really no loss... Compare this to the audio chips (better in more recent devices) which do make a real difference (music mainly) - which would you rather have? Apologies if I was a bit grumpy about it though 😊!
Hey, whats that song playing in the trailer ?? I seriously want to listen to the whole song..
I'm not sure where you can hear the full song (it's not currently playing on their MySpace page), but it's The Machete - Blow by Blow.
There's another clip of it here.
rafe, what are you talking about the future is OpenGL ES 2.0 with OMAP3 just around the corner surely GUI and 3D acceleration will ultimately be used by Nokia roll on ngage HD gaming!

Rafe, it's ok. I was just trying to prove my point, it doesn't bother me that people say "I don't care if Nokia gives us games with no 3d HWA" (You have the right to care about whatever you do), what bothers me is when they say what I mentioned before "There is no difference" (when I know there is). I like facts. For example, I would not say there is no real difference between an N91, and an N95 (Sound quality wise), because I know there is, if that is not that important to me, I would say something like "The N91 sounds much better than the N95, but for me the sound quality of the N95 is good enough". About your last question, I would like to have them both (3D HWA and DAC lol) but guess Nokia would never give us "The best of the best device". So for example I would go for a 3D HWA phone over a DAC phone (I'am not sure but this stands for Dedicated Audio Chip right?, sorry I do not live in an English speaking country), as let's say an N95 over an N81, because even if the N81 is better in sound quality than the N95, the N95 (at least for me, with the right equalization and a pair of Senn CX-300) is not bad at all, but I really like the way HWA 3D looks like and how smooth it is (that's one of the reasons I bought an N95-3 after all). Best regards for everybody.
Hardly an unused piece of silicon.
The evidence;
The N96 cannot run Quake OpenGL, Quake 2 OpenGL....
OR QUAKE 3 ARENA OPEN GL!!!! (just released for S60)
see hinkkas website (type 'hinkka quake s60' into google)
Only phones with that unused piece of silicon (Samsung i8510, Nokia E82, Nokia N95 and N95 8Gb, E90) can run some of the finest 3d games of their era. Care to change ones perspective on this one? 😃
