Remote Drives

Hi All,

Have been looking into the remote drives feature on my n85 and have finally got it working.

It's great for backing up or sharing files on the internet.

Follow these steps and get yourself setup.

Go to www.box.net and sign up for their free 1GB account. Once that is done, go to remote drives in Tools>Settings>Connection

Enter the following settings

Name: Anything you want
Address: http://www.box.net/dav
Access point: Whatever access point you use
Username: username you signed up with
Password: password you signed up with

That should be it.

You can access the remote drive in File Manager. Just copy what you want backing up/sharing into there.

Have fun.

Hi IJM

Are you using the email address you registered with the Box as your username? If not, then try that.

Hope it works.

Still having issues.

My settings are

Box name : Misc
Address ( as it says in settings) : http://public.box.net/ijm
username - My Full E-Mail
Pass - Same Pass

I noticed you're box address is different to mine ?

When I log out and type "http://public.box.net/ijm" i get " Sorry, this user has not added any files to their public Box "

I've got a folder called Misc, with one image in it.

Any ideas?

Ok realized I was using the public box.

How do I find out my "box" address ?

I think that's the issue. Does the Name have be relating to the Box account at all ?

Not sure what else to suggest. Just make sure of the following.

Name: Anything you want (This is just for reference)
Address: http://www.box.net/dav (Make sure you use this address only)
Access point: Whatever access point you use (WIFI or GPRS)
Username: username you signed up with (Make sure you use the full emal address you signed up with)
Password: password you signed up with (just enter the password you used at signup)

im not sure how to put files in the new remove drive. I see it in the file manager but am not sure how to add files to it

It works fine on my N96.
What threw me off a few times:
- the default URL offered is https:// but the instructions say http:// (So my recommendation for the service is to offer both - in fact https:// is safer.)
- I forgot to use the whole email address as user name
- Once you make a mistake, dont enter the corrected username in the pop up you get when connecting... go back to edit the drive in file manager

hey tried to input all the info again, works like a charm, thanks much johnnyremote, much appreciate your patience and help with this 😉

i can get it to work in that i can browse files online, but if you try to edit anything, or upload anything, it just doesn't do anything. Try deleting a folder or creating a new folder. Mine just sits there saying it's doing it indefinately, and eventually it does nothing. Anyone else got this?

l1nknp4rk - Use file manager to copy and paste onto your remote drive.

clive6630 - Yeh, I experience that sometimes. Looking into it. Could be a firmware issue?

Hi !
I manage to connect to Box Net.
But I can't see any files.
On my phone, I create a folder and from the web, I can see the folder created. But on my phone, I just cannot see anything.
When I try to copy a file to Box Net, it would let me. I click OK, nothing happens.
Any idea why ?

Thanks.

Did anyone ever figure out the issue here or come up with a better solution?

I'm able to connect to the drive, but I don't see any content. I'm able to create folders and they show up on the the web, but I still see nothing on my phone.

Any ideas?

It would be even better if we could get something like this working for Dropbox.
