A couple of N96 annoyances I've found so far...

I really like the phone, but there's couple of things that are slightly annoying.

First one is, there seems to be no light sensor on this phone which means if it's bright enough to use when it's light, it's too bright when used in the dark.

Second, when the phone's plugged in and it's off, the inside of the square scroll key lights up, which is annoying if you plug it in when you're sleeping.

I only got the phone yesterday and was hoping it was just me not bothering to read the manual, but I'm guessing it's not.

I'm on firmware v12.

You can disable this light.
Go to Menu --> Tools --> Settings --> General --> Navi wheel.
Set Breathing to off.

the n96 certainly has a light sensor which adjusts screen brightness according to your surroundings light intensity. you just have to adjust this in the settings, its called light sensor or something. the actual sensor is on top next to the earpiece near the front facing camera.

the square breathing light can also be disabled in the settings. or you can just turn your phone over when your sleeping. my e71 has the breathing light as well, and the phone sits next to my head when i sleep, and i never notice it.

The light sensor is integrated in the display, not a separate opening near the front facing camera.

Hmmm, I can't find anything in Settings for the light sensor, there's brightness, but that's it. There is a light sensor setting in my N95, but none on my N96.

If there is one, mine isn't working, the display brightness doesn't change and button lights don't turn on and off with the ambient light.

I've done this, the phone stays off now, except when the phone's off and it's plugged in.
