My i8510s battery has completely failed

My battery has always been fine, Ive never really had any battery life issues as such.

Then this morning, I woke up, and the thing wouldn't turn on, after charging all night.

I removed and reinstalled the battery, and it still wouldn't turn on, so I connected it to the charger, and managed to get a empty battery symbol with an egg timer on screen. After five minutes of this I tried to turn on again and managed to get the phone running, if I disconnected the charger it immediately beeped battery low, so I replaced the charger and left it charging for two hours, while turned on.

Two hours later, the situation was the same, removing the charger caused battery low and then the phone turned off.
I left it, saying onscreen it was charging, and went out for the day without it.

I came home to find it with nothing on screen whatsoever.
I can occasionally get it to display the empty battery / egg timer, but it will not start up, even connected to the charger.

Using the USB cable has the same effect.

Ill be taking it back to Carphone tomorrow, it is insured but I dont intend on paying insurance excess for a what should be warranty covered fault. I have only ever used official Samsung cables and chargers, in fact only the ones included with the phone. If they insist on sending it away for two weeks to essentially change the battery, which they have done before with previous phones, and I cant get anywhere else with them, Ill take the thing to the Nokia / Samsung service point in town, which on past experience normally always have a 24 hour turnaround on most warranty covered faults.

Has anyone had similar problems, or any experience dealing with Carphone over dead batteries?

EDIT - Contrary to what I just said, I just walked in to find the phone booted up. I disconnected it and it was showing 4 bars of battery. I'll see how long they last...

Had to replace the phone.

is the new handset a lot better then, or does it have "new" problems?

I was given a refurb unit, where right on the D-Pad doesn't work, one half of the screen is darker than the other, and there are big scratches inside the screen! 😡

With christmas I havent got round to swapping it again yet, but I sure as hell will be.
