Share gets rolled into the Nokia Account system on Ovi

27 replies · 6,950 views · Started 19 December 2008

After a little downtime and turnaround, Share on Ovi seems to have had its login system well and truly integrated with the generic Nokia Account system used in some other parts of Ovi. There have been some glitches of course - at least one reader emailed in with a story of woe - but things generally seem to be working. Interestingly, on the Account page, there's a section on 'Subscribed Services' (screenshotted below), showing the integration between Ovi, Share on Ovi, Friend View, Nokia Chat and My Nokia.

Read on in the full article.

Another tale of woe here.
My account has been completely blanked. All my photos and channels gone. F*** off Nokia, I'm going back to Flickr.
Thank God for Google Cache, but I'm looking at weeks of work to restore/transfer what I lost.

yay! now my profile lists me as my nokia account's username instead of my former twango's. I'm just fernando now, instead of fernando20 :P

ps. all uploads still there, I wonder what happened with the former fernando 😮

Same with me. Everything disappeared from my Share account with this "Single Sign On" solution. F*CKERS!!!

2 Grand Issues Here:

1.My pics on share on ovi are gone.

2. Ovi sync on my E71 is broken, and refuses to sync with the server.

I'm especially frustrated with #2.

But All my images got cleared from the shared account. But then I had the same nokia account and the same share account user-id, but different e-mail adresses... Yet, syncing with share online still works fine on the N82.

If you have only one account (either share or ovi) the merging seemed to go fine to. Can anyone confirm that if all details (login, password and e-mail) match. the merging went fine too?

my images are gone too.
luckily not too many were there - just 3 or 4 that I uploaded to check what exif data was read and displayed, and how good their location tagging feature was compared to other services.
but everything has disappeared for sure........

Well, I had two accounts with different names, one for Ovi and one for Share on Ovi. Now I basically have two Nokia accounts, so all the images are still connected to the username I had for share on ovi.

My guess would therefore be that there might be a problem for those who used the same username for both services and now are only logged in with their Nokia account. In that case your pictures would still be there. Maybe try logging out of ovi and then logging in on the share on ovi site first...

I hope you guys get your pictures back soon enough!

It's not possible to login with the original login to share.ovi.com. The single sign on does not allow it anymore. It sucks...

Didn't you guys get the email from Nokia asking you to make sure the account emails etc. are the same and correct? I did and did what they told me to and works fine (no lost pics).

Having said that, I suspect they have not just wiped out all your pics and they can be retrieved somehow if you inform them of the fact that you had two different email addresses or what not in the different accounts.

Same here, my old account was shift into a new name and the new one (which is the SAME name ) got nothing in it !!!! ...
Crap....

Both were the same (email, login and pwd) and it was wiped out. :banghead:

Wow. That's a bummer. Try contacting them - hopefully they can be recovered.

ps. I am sure they really are gone, but just to make sure: when I logged on Ovi main page, and then clicked on the Pictures/Share icon on the top, I still needed to click on "Login" the first time I went to the share page (before I did that there was a welcome page asking me to register). Now I seem to get logged in automatically to both (and the pics are there)

delete all their pictures and video..now everyone is going to want to join..I feel rather betrayed.

My pics are all still available. The only thing that appears broken for me is the Share widget on my home page. Everything else seems fine.

Hello,

I am on the Share on Ovi team and want to provide information about this account login transition to allay some concerns. We are sorry for the trouble this has caused some of you. Please be assured that we at Nokia have worked hard to minimize the number of users affected.

While most Share accounts transitioned smoothly, a number of accounts had to be modified to accommodate the transition. Please note your data should not have been lost.

The most likely situation is that your Share account was renamed to "<oldusername>-share" and the password was reset due to an account conflict. This may be confusing if you had an account on Ovi.com with the same username but different or unverified email or mobile number.

For more detailed information and contact email please see our blog post at: blog.share.ovi.com

Thank you for using Share on Ovi and for your understanding as we make changes to improve the service.

Sincerely,
Shiraz and The Share on Ovi Team

Can you please tell us what's the procedure to recover our stuff ?

I am quite mad at how the whole thing has been managed.

First of all: I LOST ALL OF MY MEDIAs which of course even if the service was free of charge (not accounting the premium cost of the device) give me the most anger.

Then there's the login question. I asked a week ago WHY did you have to go to share on Ovi to sign in (share.ovi.com) and I couldn't just login from the main Ovi page. I was told by someone whos name resambles hashish something like this "I've successfully logged in without problems, let me know if you have some more questions". DID YOU LOG IN !? Whith what credentials !? DID YOU by chance USE MY ACCOUNT !? That's scary.... what if I put there pictures of me and my wife (let's suppose I have one) while we bath naked ! Do you think I wanted to share them with "Nokia Care Support ENG" ?

NOKIA please LISTEN: Now that you made some "trouble" to us (a disaster of course) Is there any way that you can FACILITATE the recovery of our stuff ? Better than saying us to go to blog.share.someotherblahblah.ofcourse.com and perhaps when there sing in using our old accounts which are locked and with reset password?

How can we log in to our old accounts ? What does it mean the password has been reset ? How can I log in to the old account, what my old password has ben reset to ?

Is there anybody mindful who speaks my language ? Which is not (only) English by default...

Take care

Hi guys,

I'm not from customer support, but I would recommend you to try to log in using your old username with "-share" on the end and your password, as in chivacongelado-share in my case. Your images should be there. Check the blog for more info: blog.share.ovi.com/twango/2008/12/account-system-merged-with-ovi.html

Cheers,
Chiva Congelado

Per Chiva Congelado's comment, I think in most cases the pics and videos are still in available. Information on getting access to them (for most users I imagine) is indeed available at blog.share.ovi.com - along with a lot of other information for dealing with issues arising from the account migration.

Writing here just to report that after spending another one and half hour of my life trying to figure out how to solve things it just happens to be as I expected.

Procedures reported at blog.share.ovi.com are completely useless.

Most users (see comments on their blog's entry on the update) are locked out casue the password of the old account (with "-share" addendum) has been reset to the UNKNOWN.

And since they moved the registered mail to the new account guess where their "Password Rocevery procedure" leads.... right ! the UNKNOWN ! It just resets the password of the new account, not the one on which you are locked out.

Very clever Nokia ! That's the end of proof.

Whilst my shared photos ended up with the new account my Files on Ovi didn't. I can still log into my old files account but I can't access my files. Does that mean they are permanently on Nokia servers with me unable to delete them? Not as good as photos of my wife in the bath maybe but still slightly worrying!

Hello,

Your feedback here has been helpful, and I have updated our blog post to clarify the instructions. Again, your data should not be lost. In most cases you should be able to see your public media at "share.ovi.com/users/<oldusername>-share".

The email address listed in that blog post is a direct line to our top support to resolve these migration issues. Please send an email there explaining your situation and we will get to your request as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your avid use of Share on Ovi and hope you will stick with us through this challenging but beneficial transition.

Sincerely,
Shiraz and the Share on Ovi Team

Hi Shiraz,

I sent a message to the email address you have mentioned 12 hours ago, with the description of my problem, but no one has contacted me yet.

Cheers,

tenoce

Me too, same as above, meanwhile they have CLOSED the comments on the blog entry. Things started to turn *cough* not really well for them.

I really hope that this is really helping to sort out things like Shiraz said, but again discarding dialogue is not a very friendly move.

This is almost beyond a joke.

Although my media is not lost, because my username has been changed to XYZ-share, all the previous links I sent to non-Nokia friends to upload data to my channels are now broken. I wouldn't mind, but I signed up to Share first so you'd think they'd keep this the same...

Was looking fwd to showing friends/family how easy Share on Ovi is to use over Christmas, especially as there'll be a new ComesWithMusic device in the household to get set up... Hmmm....

In another spot of quality Nokia customer service, I forgot my N-Gage password. Yes, my bad, should never have clicked "Remember password" on my device. Oh well. Let's just reset it. Or maybe not...

After an age to load a two-line page, the N-Gage "Reset your password" form refuses to acknowledge I've entered an email address, noone is replying to my NokiaCare mails and - even better - when you navigate the 5 clicks from the N-Gage site to email Nokia directly via a webform (why there are no contact details on the N-Gage site I do not know) - you can write your email, click "send" and get told:

"The page or file could not be found. The address or link may be invalid or outdated. In 15 seconds, you will be automatically redirected to the home page of www . nokia . com."

Have the Nokia webteam been on an extended Xmas party bender or something? Nothing seems to be working at the minute!

This is what I am afraid of. I regret the day when I decided to trust Share on Ovi to host my pictures. I have more than six thousand photos in that site and now I could not access the site when I badly needed them. It could be up in the next few minutes, hours or days but it FAILED me when it was not there in times when I needed it the most.

I don't care anymore if it would be more user friendly or more secure the time it would be online, I would be back using Picasa and Flickr.

Nokia should concentrate on manufacturing phones where they are good at.

Just to let you know that some day ago they have given me a new password for the -share account, meanwhile both coexisted. Then today a mail from Ovi:

Hi, As requested, we have updated your username to m80116. You may now sign in as m80116 with your regular password. Your previous user name, m80116-share, has been cancelled and is no longer valid.

Guess what! They deleted all the media I fitted in the once empty account and moved atop all the old things. The now empty -share account is still accessible with the password they gave me. But all the new media in the last 20 days are gone !

They should have written Alpha in the title not Beta, still wondering what's the word for a thing that isn't even yet conceived, that's what it is Share on Ovi...
