GSM, Cannes - February 18, 2003 ? UIQ Technology unveils UIQ 2.1 for Symbian OS.
The UIQ 2.1 release, based on Symbian OS v 7.0, introduces new functionality and customization possibilities. It also includes, for the first time, an integrated telephony application.
Other new features and enhancements include: The latest version of Java MIDP (v2.0), richer graphical features, enhancements on gaming and sound applications and Themes - a series of background wallpapers, color schemes and sounds, which can be used for branding as well as personalization of the phone by the end-user. The way people interact with a mobile phone has evolved considerably which is directly reflected in this new product release.
"UIQ 2.1 improves our offering to phone manufacturers by adding components and features that shorten lead time and adds value. This release places our product in a lead position in the market for User Interface platforms.? said Johan Sandberg, CEO UIQ Technology AB. ?By including a ready-to-go telephony solution, we lower the barriers of entry to the Smartphone segment and enable more companies to adopt Symbian OS and UIQ.?
Could it be possible that SE will update the P800 with this new UIQ version, by a firmware upgrade perhaps? Could be cool!
Here's a pic, new icons, but I don't know if it is a 2.0 or a 2.1 pic... Anyone????

You know what, that would be really cool! 😃
It has integrated phone function... Do not quite know what the difference with P800 phone function is then... I see a file manager as well on the pic, but I'm not sure if it's a 2.0 or a 2.1 pic... SE could have decided not to include the file manager on the P800 (except for the minimal memory management function in the control panel)
Question -> need answer 😊 Is it possible to use a pic for the background like that pic ? on a P800 ?
If you read the press release carefully it says:

This means yes, but only if SE decides to use UIQ 2.1 in new P800 firmware in stead of UIQ 2.0 (if thats possible, but I guess so), which is used now.
Thanks that i didn't catch, the only way to upgrade our phones is to reach the nearst service centre, Right ?

Yes, but there hasn't been any information yet on SE implementing UIQ 2.1 in P800 firmware to my knowledge...
Unlikely to see this on a P800. They would use it on their next phone more likely. You need some reason to persuade people to buy a new phone.
The only reason I could see for UIQ2.1 is the integration of MIDP 2.0. If that is a standard Ericssony need developers & operators to standardise on then I could imagine a case where they go for it. But after the debug and integration work to get the P800 out I dont see them raping a potential revenue stream with an upgrade.
maybe the developers of Active Desk would do such app for the P800!! that would be nice!!

Ohohohoh!!! Clock at bottom line... Yes, /me want! I've been missing that feature...
Now, if only SE would implement this.... *hoping*
