Changing Startup/Shutdown animations on the P800

Right, just worked out how to do this - sure most of you know, but in case anyone doesn't:

In file manager, goto C:/sysdata and there place two mp4 files, called startup.mp4 and shutdown.mp4 - these will then play instead of the default SE animation.

This was worked out due to the problem some Orange P800 users had encountered - The Orange P800's all come with two files here, so you never see the SE animation - instead you get some Orange rising and setting sun. However, after managing to crash their phones in a strange way, it seems a few users lost the orange animations and got the SE ones they'd not seen before (i.e. the standard one on SIM free phones.) Thus Orange users can delete these files to get rid of the O branding on their phones, and other users can add alternative mp4 files for a custom startup/shutdown sequence.

If you delete the orange anims,do you automatically get the SE by default? or can somebody post the SE anims.

I've just moved the Orange mp4s onto my memory card and the Sony ones now appear by default. :P

I tried to copy my own startup.mp4 and the phone is not letting me saying " not allowed to copy this file"
and thats copying it to the memory stick!

:x It don't work even I copy the startup.mp4 & shutdown.mp4 into C:/system/data. Any help ??

That's because you're putting it in the wrong folder!

Not C:/system/data but C:/sysdata !

You'll probably have to make the folder yourself - it does work with SIM free phones though, people over at my-symbian have tried it and say it works.

Just a word of warning to anyone trying to make their own: PLEASE make sure the mp4 plays properly on your phone before actually rebooting it. Seems someone over at my-symbian has made a dodgy file, and now is unable to get the phone started up again!

(if anyone knows how to start the phone bypassing the startup video, please let us know!)

simon: you could try making 2 very short single frame mp4's. This should shorten it loads. Havn't tried it tho

Sorry will, i meant to solve this person's problem! He's already put a startup video on there, and it's corrupt - thus the phone can't be started. He needs to be able to do a hard reset (obviously can't get into the erase disk option) or else access the hard disk with the phone switched off or manage to switch the phone on without the video that's already there playing, so he can delete or modify it.

I can't believe there's no hard reset on the phone for these type of situations?!?!?...

Could anyone with P800 country support ask this to the helpcenter or so? I have no support for the P800 in my country yet.

damn, ive got the same problem, the screen is stuck at the startup animation and it wont change, shit im an idiot, and guess what all you otheres who have a stalled screen are idiots too because you cant get it fixed under waranty/gurantee since weve tampered with the software which thus breaks support from gurantee, therefore money is gonna have to be paid, and for those of you in countries where the p800 isnt commercially available yet, your gonna have to wait till late march, plus i dont think they have a special reset option which can bypass screensaver.

Just get the mobile for a firmware upgrade to a service point in all countries that the phone is already supported! That will fix it! Free of charge!

ya but the problem is that for a firmware upgrade the phone goes under the same circumstances as when connected to cradle, i.e phone is of, put on cradle, switches on etc.

now that the mobile cant progress beyond startup screen, no cradle/firmware upgrading device can fix it.

they would try, but it would most certainly fail.....btw can someone pls tell me of any service centres in uk?

i AM in desperation here, my p800 is completely bust, im not trying to purposfully set a different name for abusive purposes, im trying to get a 800dollar device working

Sure. Especially when you were using jackoregano user on My-Symbian to post offenses like "suck my *** you ***ing ass***, mother****". Remember? It was about me asking not to post links to ROMs.

Are you that limited that you cannot even "invent" new usernames?

AAS moderators: sorry, but I wanted to let you know that you now have 20 or more "incarnations" of swatfa on your forum.

Thanks Michal. Having just checked the datavase seems it only two at the moment. Theoretically no link (different IP's e-mail address) but like you say strange co-incidence!

Dont mean to change the conversation but.....

Does anyone have the default startup/shutdown that was included with R1A? Where the startup displayed green fluid droplets coming together to form the SE logo; and the shutdown was the opposite of startup.

I really liked that startup mp4 more over the default one that is currently present in R1B and later. If anyone has the files, post or PM me pleeeese!!!

Oops...didnt sign in before posting above...sorry.... 😮ops:

heres a clip of the shutdown just so u get an idea:

A Firmaware Upgrade Overrides anything in the Phone, When carrying out a upgrade, the phone is shut off, therefore it dosn't matter If all of the data in tho phone roms, ect. are erased. It completly erases the flash, and white in a new one.

anyone know why there are 2 copies of the statup/shutdown animations on orange uk phones. 1 set in c:\sysdata and another in c:\custom\sysdata. which ones do i delete to get the ericsson mp4's?
cheers
