Has anyone successfully updated the pre-installed version of Mobile8 to the new one on the Route 66 website?

Just wondered if it overwrites the old one okay as I can't seem to find the install files for the pre-installed one anywhere in the phone memory.

Cheers!

Just tried it, unzipped to memory card but won't install to main memory, I just get an error.
Haven't tried unzipping to the main memory directly, not sure if I want to incase it screws up.

You need to connect the phone is mass storage mode, then run the update on the PC. I've updated mine twice by this means, no problem at all. You will the be able to use the sync utility from 66.com to manage the installation: applying map updates etc.

Hello again!

I'm having the same problem as vudluxi - I connected in Mass Storage mode and ran the application from the pc. It copies everything to the phone but then it isn't executing on the phone itslef . When I run the .sis file on the phone I get an "Update Error".

I'm still waiting for my Route66 UK map licence to be transferred to this phone. ould that be the problem? That I don't have a map licenced just yet? Do you have a licenced map at the moment vidluxi?

I have the same problem.

I updated the firmware on my i8510 recently (unfortunately before I found the posts about people having trouble with it!). Might this be contributing to the problem?

If it was pre installed u cant mess with it... if its in the ROM u cant delete or update using another .sis that would overwrite it, just like any other app that came with the phone, it will be denied. Mine didnt have it originally so I was able to update. I tried to install the new Google Maps and it was impossible, exactly for the same reason. Sorry.

Jesus... can't Samsung get anything right?!

Anyone know if you can install a new full version in the mass memory instead?
