Help: Alarms don't sound if phone locked?

2 replies · 2,558 views · Started 06 February 2009

Can anyone help me here - I'm a longtime smartphone/PDA geek user, but totally new to Nokia and Symbian. I want to use my 5800 as an alarm clock, but I also have it autolock itself (so you need a PIN to use it) after 5 minutes of non-use.

I have found that in this state, the alarms don't go off until you turn it on and type in the PIN.

Not much use for waking me up in the morning 😊

Am I missing something silly?

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers

I haven't had any problems with my alarms, but I don't use an automatic PIN-locking, so it's possible this is some kind of bug that only happens in that particular situation.

Which firmware version are you using? (You can find out by going to the main menu, then Settings, then Phone, then Phone Management, then Device Updates.)

The ordinary non-PIN screen lock works fine with alarms by the way, I would recommend just using that. Or are you worried about someone else using your phone?

You can switch on the non-PIN autolock period by going to Menu>Settings>Phone>Auto Keyguard. It's just like the PIN one, but you just flick the screenguard switch to unlock the phone.

Hi - many thanks for your reply Tzer2.

This is an interim reply, but previously I had FW 11.0.008. As of last night I have 11.0.009, and all tests thus far seem to show that the problem has gone away. I can now have the screen autolocked to a PIN, and so far the alarms will always go off OK. (PS: I use a PIN lock 'cos I work in a big open plan office with *a lot* of people and my phone is generally left on my desk. AND I'm a privacy fanatic...)

I'll post a final confirmation in a day or two, when I see whether I'm late for work due to alarm clock failures next week...!
