does anyone know what the the modem icon in the connections folder is for? It seems redundant to my mind, as I always initiate connections to it from a laptop or pda? If anyone does use it, can they put me straight?
thanks in advance

As much as i know it's purpose is to identify itself to a computer as an irda modem only, and give no access to nokia pc suite. If you'll connect it through irda but not through the modem option it will be recognised as a phone whith modem capabilities, and gives also access to pc suite which might slow down the connection and suck your battery more quickly. (although irda itself is battery draining, more draining than bluetooth i can easily say)
thanks for the info. Couldn't work out the use of it, just wondered if I was missing something good!!
I use it to connect my psion 7 to the internet for email retrieval or web browsing. I just click on the the modem icon and point my psion at it via irDA and voila!
does anyone know if its possible to get higher than ~ 9.6kps using the phone as an IR modem for another device (like a laptop)? there doesn't seem to be anywhere to change the maximum speed... i can use the phone as a BT modem at up to i think 43kps or smthing
Yes I use my 7650 as a modem for my psion, and I connect using GPRS instead of dialup. You need to put in a #(hash) code instead of a number, I am not sure what it is at the moment but I will look it up and post it later on.
