Hi there - sorry if this is a little basic but...
I'm thinking of changing the product code on my N82 black in order to update to one of the newer firmwares (I'm currently stuck at V20).
Quick question - I hear a lot about V31 being unhackable and I'm not sure what this means. I believe it means no "unsigned apps" - but does that mean things like Calcium and Y-Browser? They are listed as having an "unknown" source in the Application Manager - so are they unsigned?
I'm not sure I'd bother with attempting a firmware upgrade if I can't subsequently use these applications.
Thanks for any help
all N82 firmwares are now hackable however this website doesnt deal with that issue so if your looking for instructions on how to do it you will nedd to go elsewhere.
although the two programs you mentioned do not need a hacked phone to install on as they may be from an "unknown" source but they have been signed so they can be installed on any symbian phone
Thanks for your reply. So "unsigned application" doesn't mean one where the "Application Manager" says the source is unknown?
I've got Calcium, S-Tris and Y-browser that are listed as above. If this is the case, what are "unsigned applications" and why are Nokia so keen for them not tobe used?
Thanks

When App.mgr says the source is unknown, the applications have been self-signed by the developer and the signer cannot be verified to be a specific entity (company, organization). With self-signed applications there's an installation-time warning, and self-signed applications are not able to get all privileges (capabilities) that authenticated signing via
http://www.symbiansigned.com can get.

I don't know why you would want to hack the OS, as self-sign certificates can be obtained - search for OPDA on google.
