5800 - do you have a gap / crack in the case ?

This thread included a poll: Is there a gap between the screen and the body of the top right hand side of your 5800 ?

My 5800 came with a gap between the screen and the body of the phone on the top right hand side of the handset , above the volume buttons.

I'm pretty sure this let some dust into the phone, you could see it on the screen.

I've done a quick poll on another site to see how widespread this issue is - so far it's present in two thirds of handsets to some degree.

Has your phone got this gap ?

Yes, mine does too.
I fact, the whole case feels plastic and creeks (is that English?), but in reality it is still quite sturdy.
About the hole: if it gets bigger, or if a lot of here people report that they do not have this issue, I'll go back to the shop to get it fixed. For now, it does not really bother me.

I also have the gap too - phoned Nokia Direct earlier and they are going to replace the phone with a new one 😊

its all nitpicking. its a really small gap, LESS than one millimeter, only noticable if you want to find it. otherwise, you won't even know it was there in the first place!

On yours maybe. Mine was letting dust in to the screen.
It's basically a hole in the phone - and that's not good enough.

i'm not a serial returner either - I have better things to be doing. I would much rather the phone was made well and I still had it.

i found the gap when using it in a dark room :P
went right back to the store day after and they told me i get a new one!
i had it less than 24h :S

Yes, when I first noticed it I thought I had damaged it in some way. I was somewhat relieved when I read that other people were experiencing the same thing. Its not noticeable unless I actually look for it, but you'd think Nokia wouldn't allow handsets to leave R&D in this way. 😞

anyone had a replacement for this yet? and was it any better?

mine is a black and silver and came from orange, ordered from their website. it's not a massive gap and in a way i can't be bothered with the hassle of sending it back, but at the same time i don't want it to become a problem in the future. has anyone had bad dust issues with this, i havn't so far but have only had the phone a week, and it hasn't left the house much yet as i am still waiting for my old number to port over

A workmate tried to return his to Vodafone Ireland. The staff said it wasn't a major problem and suggested he buy a case for it !

This is why I think we need Nokia to admit there's an issue.

Mine's being returned to Vodafone UK. Will post the outcome.

i also got a replacement, same gap as before... i got tired of it and i glued it 😞
since ive been with my previous phone (SE xperia) 3 times at repaircenter within about 3 months and then i left my 5800xm after not even 24 hours i just dont have it in me to fix it... the buildquality with todays electronics seams to have gone down the drain, im guessing quantity or moneysaving is more of a priority :/

I got a tiny gap, it's noticeable when i press on the corner, i can see it move. Should i be concerned about dust getting in? It's only a tiny gap...

I fixed my gap and made a short video about it ;D

the problem about the gap isn't just that is looks crappy, but the missing pressure of the front frame causes a gap inside the phone between the display cover and the display which allows dust to get in there too... also moving plastic parts create creaking.

If you use your phone while its raining and a drop of rain gets in and changes the moisture indicator or damages Ur phone you are out of warrenty. Nokia would have no proble in refusing to fix the phone even if the damage was not caused by the water.

It maybe nitpicking, however you would expect a better quality from Nokia. I would get any phone like that replaced.
