AT&T today officially confirmed that they would be carrying the Nokia E71 on their network in the form of the E71x. The E71x comes in black and, in contrast to the E71, runs S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 (S60 3.2 on Symbian OS 9.3). The phone supports the US 3G bands (850/1900 Mhz) and retains the WiFi connectivity and GPS from the E71. It comes with a variety of AT&T services including AT&T Navigator (turn by turn GPS navigation), AT&T Music, XM Radio, CV-stream, Xpress Mail, Mobile Instant Messaging and Video share. The E71x will cost $99 on a 2 year contract after a mail-in rebate ($50).

Has anyone been able to check out whether or not the SIP VoIP client on this handset has been 'nobbled' or not?

I honestly dont see any advantage I would have owning the E71x over my white unlocked E71-2. AT&T always puts tight restrictions on ringtone file sizes, GPS, and practically everything else. Sure the X has FP2, but why? And that black finish just isnt doing it for me. Not to mention the big honking AT&T logo emblazoned on the chin. Give me a firmware update for e71-2 product code 0570274 and I'll be happy. Cant wait to blow away the contracted X owners with all that the unlocked model can do, and the better looks.

Also just noticed that they had the forward facing camera. Typical ATT. I use that for qik vids sometimes. What were they thinking, when they've been trying to get the videoshare thing going for about a year already.

To Tzer2:
-1 points for posting obnoxious OMG HUGE picture of the black E71
-1 points for not realizing the OP was referring to the fact that this E71 is running FP2 (rather than FP1 like the regular E71) and not talking about its color

Unregistered, he said "wow that looks fabulous" which does sort of imply the physical looks were a part of the attraction.

But sorry about the pic size, didn't realise how large it was raw, have changed to a link. 😊

Wow. How can I get xm radio on my unlocked E71? That's the only thing I've read that makes this ATT-branded version interesting.

I dig the theme shown on E71x; yes even with the AT&T logo in the background. I could never understand why so much real estate is wasted by the clock on the left side in FP1 and priori. Can we get this theme? Or is this a FP2 thing?

Also, does anyone know if the camera finally doesn't suck? I don't know understand why E71's camera is so horrible -- it's worse than E61, E61i and E65 that I have used before. And no it's not because of the secret focus key. The sensor is just bad.

E71's camera is so horrible -- it's worse than E61, E61i and E65 that I have used before.

The E61 doesn't have a camera...

@Unregistered; XM radio on AT&T phones is just a streaming java app, that requires monthly pay on top of the already expensive data plans. I wonder if anyone actually uses it.

to the dude above, the E51 does have a camera in certain markets, eg australia

It just flashed me, I think I know why the x is sp2. Because until now we could get rid of branding by as easy as a region code change. But now it won't be possible.
