5800 on Orange tells me v 11.0.009 is the latest firmware version

Nokia ALWAYS feck up new operating system launches...

Had the 7650, 6600, N73, N95 and 5800. They all used bleeding-edge revisions of Series 60/Symbian, and all seem to suffer the same problems - screen, restart cycling, messages, compatibility breaking and BUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGSSSSSS!!

This is the worst so far though. Has anyone managed to keep all their stuff after updating? I lost the nice app-based version of iPlayer and can't get it back! Just installs the web-widget version of older Series 60v3 handsets :icon13::icon13::icon13:

It's only my messages nothing important and to be honest I think it's cause they were saved to my memory card so I decided to not back up the user memory section.

Still no update for my Nokia 5800 (product code 0576921) 😞

Getting pretty fed up of this now, has anyone here debranded their 5800 and lived to tell the tale?

Well I have no problems at all I have managed to find my messages. I forgot to change the message set up back to memory card and when I changed it there they all were.

HAHA my bad!

So all in all my update has been very successful.

Wooooooooooooooo go me!

i had a t-mobile branded 5800 so i gave it a new product code and re-installed the firmware...now its brand free...

How did you go about giving the phone a new product code?

Tired of waiting for Orange to certify the update for my phone, at least if I give it a Nokia generic code I'll be able to update on day one.

you change the product code using jaf and pkey emulater version 4/5..then when you update the firmware via nokia updater , it looks at what product code you got then updates accordingly...

so if you got a orange product code it will update with the latest orange firmware and if you have a non branded product code (put in by yourself) it will update with the latest non branded firmware..

google it and read the instructions , its very easy to do..

Debranded, change code to generic UK and updated to v20. Phone is much more responsive now, multi-tasking on it is now much quicker (playing music slowed down text entry to about 1 word a second) and I am a happy chappy.

Think that Nokia could still work on the internet browser, trying to enter text in message boards is still pretty slow. Here's hoping v20+ gets here soon.

yes nokia has released the latest firmware for nokia 5800 but is not available in all countries... so those who are desperate for getting them should wait until the firmware comes to their country/region....

or, change the product code and you can have the latest firmware..

Well - I'm on V 11.0.0.009, it's April 22nd, I'm on a 5800 Red on Orange in the UK, and I'm still being told by NSU and over the air that 11.0.0.009 is the latest firmware for my phone.

I would do a debrand using JAF, and I've tried, but all I ever seem to find is versions which come up as viruses, ones that crash or alternative unbranding programs that won't recognise my phone like Pheonix or Nemesis (despite trying to roll back or remove my nokia software and remove the drivers or reinstall older drivers). I've given in with this for the moment.

So I'm stuck on 11.0.0.009 until Orange or Nokia decide to put this outdate out in the UK. Pretty annoying I have to say.

sionyboy, change your code to one of the accepted ones and then update to v21, i've just done that ...btw not a lot of difference in v21 except the menus seem to change quicker...

If the update was more fully featured I'd change product code again, but given it seems to be minor tweaks/improvements I'll just wait until it hits NSU in the UK, which shouldn't take too long (I hope!)

Hi Sionboy,

Had a go from the link you posted today, as we're at 29th April now and Orange UK still not showing an update for my 5800 (NSU or over the air).

But again - OGM_JAF_PKEY_Emulator_v 5.rar, (once unrarred), comes up containing a virus with my AV. Not sure why no one else is seeing this, but not willing to take the chance of disabling my AV and to be honest, I'd just be a lot happier if Orange would just release the V20 firmware for the 5800 in the UK!

Mucking about unbranding the phone seems like overkill to get some fixes that should have been there from day one! It doesn't help that a friend of mine (not on Orange) has now been on V20 normally for over a month now!

Thanks for the advice, nonetheless.

April 29th, some 11 weeks after V20.0.0.12 was released by Nokia and having spoken to Orange - it's apparent this not being released for my phone is very much an 'Orange UK don't understand how firmware releases work' problem.

They say as far as they're concerned V11.0.0.8 is the latest version for my Nokia 5800 (indeed, that V11.0.0.8 is the lastest version for all 5800's as of the end of March!) and that I should speak to Nokia.

It's not even as if they've not seen the V20 firmware; I've now found other posts that seem to indicate that Silver 5800's on Orange UK will update to V20.0.0.12 (and presumably V21.0.0.25 which comes out next week), but Red one's (at least one's on my product code) won't.
This post for example:
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/65/33648758-orange-nokia-5800-updating.html#post34781825

So my options seem to be to debrand my phone (not something I want to do and frankly I've not yet been able to), or to live with these faults (I have a volume issue which Nokia customer service tell me is addressed by V20) and non functioning front camera, which we know is also addressed.

Given that O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile have all sorted out the update by now and given some handsets are updating on Orange, seemingly without their knowing this is the case, I'm quite appalled by the rubbish technical support at Orange (or at least how bad their interface and communication internally with customer service is).

Honestly - on the phone they were trying to prove that 11.0.0.8 was the latest version for the 5800 by sending me to NSU and saying 'look', when I'd explained that it was showing an out of date version because they'd not approved the update in the first place - how ridiculous. They seem completely unaware of different product codes affecting a firmware release or that that might have an effect. Simply appalling.

i'm afraid debranding is the only way you will get an up to date ,faster firmware...i had a slow t-mobile phone so i changed the code to a generic one and updated ,twice once to v20 and again to v21...i agree changing the code is very fiddly with having to take my anti-virus software of the pc so that it wouldnt 'heal' the pkey emulator, but the satisfaction of a faster , brand fee 5800 makes up for it...
