Interesting to see Nokia still developing their Friend View application in the light of the elephant in the room, Google Latitude (though as even that can't seem to get traction, what hope has Friend View got? - discuss). The latest build of Friend View has background notification features, in that you can leave it lurking away in the background and it will ping you when a friend gets within a customisable distance from your current location. Is there anyway (an easy way) with Friend View I can show my location to a PC user (through their browser)?
Google Latitude lets you out through iGoogle, but it's not 100% satisfactory because the counter party needs an iGoogle account to view my location.

http://friendview.nokia.com - but they'd need an account there as well.
Technically it ought to be possible through the Ovi Maps website, which lets you view the Nokia Maps database through a PC browser.
Really this feature should be integrated into Nokia Maps and Ovi Maps, because that's where you're most likely to want to use it.
Thanks guys. Basically a silo at this point. You'd think it would be the easiest thing in the world for me to sned my GPS co-ordinates from my phone over the mobile network to a mapping application so that i can share my location with other people when I want without requiring them to sign-up to loads of stuff.
I think that'd actually make it more viral and encourage people to use Friend View or Latitude or whatever.

I really think this is where Nokia have failed on Friend View (and Google with Latitiude). It's just not viral enough -- even most of my early-adopter friends aren't using it. Now if they could integrate with Twitter, which already uses GPS at some points...
Why don't Google Latitude et al get any traction? One comment I heard from a teen in the target market that she would love to know where her friends were all the time, but that she hated the thought that her friends would know where she was, all the time.
