It takes a lot for us to link over to a Symbian Freak feature*, but I wanted to make an exception in this case because of a lengthy and very detailed blow-by-blow comparison of Samsung and Nokia's current flagships, the INNOV8 and N95 8GB respectively, by Jun Chao Ai. He concludes that the INNOV8 would have won overall but for its easily-damaged and hard-to-replace plastic screen.

* (some of their content is legally dubious)
That's not right. I've always noted them to be particularly strict about this.
So what about all the articles about hacking phones to remove OS security then? Plus the countless times articles from other news sources have been pasted in verbatim and passed off in the same way as original content.... SF do occasionally produce a gem of an article, as here, but the quality and legality does vary hugely.
Really? How is the 'hacking' illegal?
Agree with Steve about them often just indicating sources with "SF Forum" or "Friend of mine", although the news were clearly ripped of from other blogs. The height of impudence is that I have already seen the admin accusing other blogs to do the same thing he does, while he should mind his own business in point of fact. However, "hacking" is not illegal in any way and is very useful to open the platform security in order to access lots of very interesting customations and additions.
Besides, I think it is anyhow one of the best Symbian blogs along with AAS. 😊
I appreciate AAS to ALWAYS act very responsibly in that matter, keep up your honesty while your "competitors" put their own success in front of giving credit to the work of others.
The N96 is Nokia's current flagship, not the N95 8GB.
>>The N96 is Nokia's current flagship, not the N95 8GB.
Debatable! Worse performance for some apps (no graphics acceleration), worse camera performance, cheaper build quality, and so on. Only the iPlayer compatibility and the use of FP2 redeems it in any way whatsoever.
+the N96 has a DVB-H receiver!
Oh come on Steve, I know you're not the biggest fan of the n96 but it is very definitely their current n-series flagship. Agreed, there's quite a few things that still need to be got right and Nokia do seem to have taken their eye off the n96 ball with various touch-screen devices, but it was always seen as an upgrade to the n95, and it does improve on a lot of things.
But c'mon Nokia, get that killer version of the f/w out - it's well over-due now.
ILG
I totally agree with Steve, SF has good info, sometimes, but their practices are very shady.
Yes, bypassing OS security is illegal and yes they do take other's article, but the worst is they almost Never link to the orginal software's developer website as they only want you to download it from their site.
But what really gets me is the fact that they dont provide neutral articles.
One example is the article about them going to the Netherlands for Nokia World and giving comments about city Amsterdam stating: "Not impressed"
Hope you guys enjoyed the little review. 😊
Bluw13x, I'm still waiting?
Why/how is 'hacking' Symbian OS 'security' illegal?
It's illegal because you are altering or bypassing the code, and the T&Cs you agreed to when you bought the phone were that you'd not alter or bypass the code. If you've broken the Terms and Conditions for using the device, it is illegal.
Personally, I really like the whole 'hacking' seen and think it should be encouraged.
This should not be confused with things like outright piracy etc.
I currently have interest in 2 mobile platforms. S60 and WinMo. With WinMo, there is a site called xda-developers and they are great for providing cooked roms with various fixes, enhancements etc.
It would be fantastic (though I doubt it will ever happen) to have the same level of 'illegal' activity on the S60 platform.
Just my opinion...
Zuber
Mrochester, where can I read these terms and conditions?
Besides, all I did to 'hack' my phone was to install an application, uninstall it and then install a file browser - is that not allowed?
SF article is horrible, its only lengthy because the grammar is very poor at best. AAS, please stop using SF articles as reference. Please stop posting SF's reviews.....I can not read through one paragraph and not wince at how bad the grammar is.
@ThisGuy: Agreed, but in this case I made an exception because the author brought out several interesting points borne out of everyday use (e.g. the easily damaged and hard to replace INNOV8 screen)....

The grammar may be shoddy at times but surely the
content of the article is more important...:con?
And SF does have a massive fan base and most active forum group for providing assistance for Symbian devices
Bypassing Symbian's security is not in any sense "illegal".
If the security can be bypassed by installing an application the user is simply exploiting an error in the original design. The most that can be said is that the user might be in breach of contract.
Did you ever finish the AAS review of the 8510?
This is very disappointing for a site and a team that thinks of itself as clean and does produce quality content. You could, and should, have avoided the obnoxious "it takes a lot for us to link to symbian freak" comment. A simple link would have sufficed. There is enough animosity amongst the general web community and we certainly don't need it between two highly respected and talented websites. What exactly were you trying to say, slitchfield? Were you defending yourself, detaching yourself? "Hey the link is dirty, but we are clean, and we are doing them dirty buggers a favour by linking to an article of theirs" kind of thing? Hardly seems so. Then what in the world were you thinking?! Were you apologizing to your "fans"? That would be too much. I won't be wrong if I assume that a lot of us have enough respect for your site to be frequent visitors. Please don't destroy the respect by maligning other sites. It's a honest "be-good" advice, please don't think of this as flaming or trolling.

Stop wincing, stop reading. Simple. Don't go looking for perfect prose and grammar here. It's not the place, your Wren and Martin is. Get your head out and look at what is important here. The content, not the grammar. My appraisal of this site went down two notches when slitchfield actually replied to this guy's grammar complaint. Sigh. Ok, you want proper grammar? Here is your post, edited with proper grammar. Missing words in bold :
THE SF article is horrible, it's (you forgot the apostrophe) only lengthy because the grammar is very poor at IT'S best. AAS, please stop using SF articles as A reference. Please stop posting SF's reviews. (no multiple dots.) I cannot (one word, cannot) read through one paragraph and (you don't use not twice to make another negative. So deleted the extra 'not'😉 wince at how bad the grammar is.
