I like to listen to a live football commentary on a Saturday afternoon and the BBC offer this for any SPL game via their website. I was pleased to find this worked on my 5800.
However, 90 minutes streaming over 3g just about killed the battery. Would using wi-fi (when available) use less power? My suspicion is that it would.
Also, I found that if I tried to return to the home screen or any other app and run Real Player in the background then the audio paused. I expected to be able to listen while I sent a text, just as if listening to FM radio. Anyone know if this is possilble or is it a limitation of the handset?

I think that is and always has been a limitation of Nokia S60 phones. my N95 and N96 don't allow you to put the streaming app in the background while doing something else on the phone.
There was a workaround for this on standard (non touch) handsets. Don't know if it would work on the 5800 though.
Anyway, the way you did it was to launch Real Player, wait till the screen saver comes up, then press the S60 swirly key (white button on the 5800) and launch your new app in the usual way.
