I just got myself a Nokia 5800 today, after my girlfriend got hers on Sunday and I liked it so much.
One of the features she had that I liked, was the iplayer and the ability to download shows.
So I got mine today (direct from o2, and the box actually says o2 UK RED) hers is from CPW.
And I didn't have iplayer installed =[
I tried downloading it onto the phone, which I have now done, but there is no option to download the shows =[.
Does anybody know a fix around this at all?
Software version:
V 11.0.009
Software version date:
25-01-2009
my girlfriends says
software: 20.0.012
software date: 26-01-2009
I've tried checking for updates, and I'm being told it's up to date.
So does anybody know what I can do?
Thanks,
James
The download option only works on the v20 firmware, its a DRM issue, apparently.
How would I go about getting version 20? I tried updating it, both on the pc, and on the phone and it wont let me.
You've got a branded handset so your provider decides when to release the new firmware to you. It seems they like to do their own testing. Next time consider a sim-free phone and a sim only contract. Might not be much in it as you get a better deal on the sim as they are not subsidising a handset for you.
You can change your product code and then upgrade but that will invalidate your warranty AFAIK. I think the info to do that can be found easily by searching here if you decide to go down that path.
can I not chagne my product code to update the firmware, and if I have a problem, change it back to what it was to send it back?
Indeed you can. The question you really want answered is can Nokia detect if I do this? This I do not know.

do it!...i've gone from v11 to v20 and again from v20 to v21 and got rid of my t-mobile branding...
In response to one of the posts above - I am using v 11.0.009 software and this is how I save my programmes from BBC iplayer:
To save programmes (via wifi only) - you start to watch the programme, then you press the options menu (bottom RHS) where you have a "save" choice, this then brings up the name of the programme (default name is something like "streaming N95 blah blah from what I can remember!) - but you can change this to a more meaningful name. The 5800 saves the file to store automatically in the Gallery. When you go to the Applications option, select Realplayer and from within there - look in the "streaming links" to find your saved programme. The saved programme can now be watched whether connected via wifi or 3G.
Hope this helps!
