Cranking a software is a challenge, for crackers
I really agree with you. It's the same thing for "hackers": the true spirit is just to "break fronteers", nothing bad in this.
Bad thing is only the BIG spread of pirate software in the symbian world  as now, it's EASIER to find "cracked" apps than legal ones. It's a shame. Many publishers do HAVE trial releases, so I really think that going for a 'crack' for these is just not fair
Photographer is an excelent example cause there is no trial or demo of it, while the coding is really bad assuming it's size and features.
I don't agree with this. I don't think it's coded so bad. I am only sad they went on improving a security mechanism that IMHO is just useless. What I mean is: Microsoft, with its ACTIVATION thing wanted to stop "casual piracy" and the goal was accomplished. But in the symbian world, there is no such a thing as "casual piracy". Since all the software is only sold over the internet, it's easier to find the cracked one than the "real" one. And this is bad. But IMHO "activation"-like mechanisms don't work well for this kind of programs.
I have no solution for symbian piracy. The only effective thing IMHO would be to actively work against "distribution" sites and forums and let them all close. This way, I am sure, piracy would not be completely defeated. But only FEW people would have access to these "cracks". And these are the people who wouldn't pay for those softwares anyway. So, no loss for the developers. And more time to develop great apps 😉
Actually, the "FEW" is around 2000-3000 people, of which I'm sure some would buy the software if the cracked ones were not available.
Yes, I agree, there should be no activation style mechanism. There should rather be a demo, and afull version, both different downloads.
As there are not many customers for any products (just guessing) the full versions should have the buyer's name and IMEI coded in, so that this information could be extracted from the file by the developers.
Here comes the hard part: Nobody else should be able to crack that info from the file and change it. This would be probably done best by not telling anyone that the info is actually somewhere in there. I'm not sure if this is legal though.
Anyways, this way if the full version is available somewhere, the developers could be able to locate the one who originally "leaked" it.
