A Chinese website has posted screenshots and video of the N97 running the N-Gage application, see the third video for N-Gage. It seems the N-Gage app has been redesigned somewhat for horizontal use on the N97's large touch-sensitive screen, but the only game shown (Asphalt 4) seemed to be running at 4:3 aspect ratio rather than the full 16:9. That doesn't look half bad. As long as it's used to keep compatibility with all current N-Gage games, it's better having the 4:3 screen + virtual softkeys
it looks like its making zoom on the ngage games , maybe 1.5x , because ngage games are 240 x 320 , and for what i can see its running 360 x 480!
i like it!
damn thats great news (video), i really like this!
now im only hoping i can transfer my ngage games from my n95 8gb to my future n97 (anyone know if and how this is possible?), i still enjoy playing space impact from time to time 😃
(also bought bounce, and i had a free copy of miles high pinball)!
Cuberob, the transfer thing has long been a big issue with N-Gage. The current situation is that you can do one transfer, so for example if you buy a game on one device and then move to another one, you can transfer the game to that new device but not onto a third device.
Nokia keeps telling us they're working on a much more flexible transfer system but it never seems to appear.
I can see how mentioning in this context that the i8910 HD runs Asphalt 4 smoothly at full 16:9 resolution might be construed as bragging, but that's not my intention. Oh wait... it totally is!
Nokia should have included a GPU in this device. Come think of it, Nokia should have included a GPU in all its N-gage devices. N-gage should have been synonymous with graphically accelerated.
Thats quite impressive, but for me, not unexpected 😊
i wonder how much touch screen will be usable in some of the older games
in the video of A4 touchscreen is atleast enabled in the menus as far as i can tell.
Rvirga, Nokia have said that they will have a GPU and a very high res touchscreen (800x480 pixels) on their upcoming Maemo device which is based on OMAP3. The latest rumours are that this new Maemo device will be a smartphone about the same size as the N97.
If the new Maemo device is a phone, that would probably be the best place for any gaming platform intended for hardcore gamers. The new Maemo interface depends on a GPU being present so there will be GPUs on all future Maemo devices.
Yup,the next Maemo tablet is to be called the N900,said to have a WVGA (800x480) screen with 3.5",same as N97;...however the old N810 has the same resolution but a bigger 4.1"...seems to be a down-grade in terms of what you will be able to view on the screen...
I belive on a Interet Tablet, a 4" screen is the minium...
