GoBoy Petition (or sth like that)

16 replies · 3,355 views · Started 02 March 2003

Well it may sound offending or seems that I am asking too much.
What I want?
Well wildpalm has one very bad thing. They create proggys but they are very slow to update them. So if any programmer can really add this battery emulation or save state option to the wonderful Gameboy emulator for the 7650, I would be greatly thankfull too him.
The reason I am asking this is because I think wildpalm has thrown support for the goboy cause it's free (unless they want to update it next year and release it again as a present for their customers). They've done the same think with Doom, after they make it freeware.
But the good think with goboy is it's open source nature so any developer can take the source files from wildpalm and add the extra features.
I am sure there are more people who want this to be developed and if they do please then reply to my post.

If none is willing to do it then I can live without it...
And this is not exactly a petition but just a favour I am asking...

Besides we have many skilled developers here in AAS... 😉

Well goboy is as good as useless anyway. The 7650 keypad just isnt laid out right for playing gameboy games, and the only time i tried using it i got cramp after 5 minutes

@MemphisX, why dont you write them an email and ask them why they dont update it etc. If you get an answer we can then decide what to do.

I don't have internet access right now. Only gprs wap through my phone(my operator doesn't allow e.mail and other internet stuff, only wap). So if anyone can email them... And also if you don't like the goboy then you tested the wrong games. Check out the final fantasy series, the legend of zelda, tetris, mario land series, castlevania series. So many good games and in most of them the only way to keep playing them is to always keep running the goboy...

24 hours have past since I send them an e-mail asking about
GoBoy's current state of development and no reply has come, yet. I'll see my e-mails on a week again (or maybe more).

Just hoping that the reply would be positive somehow, and most importantly,I hope I'll get a reply...

Yeah I agree, we need an updated version with a saving-feature ASAP. And many of the games can be played with stick, Zelda: Links Awakening is excellent on N7650. Too bad no saving. 😞

Yes it was mario land that I played, but Like I say it just gave me cramp after 5 minutes.

The joystick is bearable (apart from not being able to do diagonal movements), but the A and B buttons are what, 2 buttons on the keypad? I had to keep a bit of my thumb on one button to make me run, then somehow span across to another button to jump. It just wasnt practical!

And worst of all, when my hands were in this strange knot I had 2 thoughts running through my mind. That I would either drop my phone or snap it in half.

I think I'll stick to games that were designed to be played with a limited control system. Geopod is a brilliant example

IM USED TO PLAYING SUPER MARIO DELUXE ON MY 7650 NOW. IT IS A BIT HARD AT FIRST BUT IVE GOT THE HANG OF IT NOW. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS SOME KING OF ADD ON FOR THE 7650 THAT EXTENDS THE JOYSTICK BECAUSE ITS A BIT FIDDLEY PLAYING GAMES WITH IT

Just got a reply from Wildpalm. It was not very informative,though...

Thanks for your email. We are still developing GoBoy, but we can only make
releases between other projects. We plan to make a new release available
with save support in the near future.

I know this sounds slack in a way but you can't really be picky. After all they released it for FREE, and most people are using it play pirated/free Gameboy games and then the developers didn't have a lot to work with anyway (if the phone only supports 4-way on the joystick; and the buttons have to be substituted with keypad buttons)..

Aha, but I never wanted Goboy in the first place. I merely tried it out because it was free. And now Im picking out it's faults. Im not expecting anything to be done about them

When i created this thread i didn't expect it to have the opposite effect, hearing people that they don't want this program to... "EVOLVE". For me it just fills the gap of rpgs in the 7650. Mario is a little bit hard to play but it is playable, especially if i want to play a 5 minute platform game. But the second mario as well as all rpgs are not only to play 5 minutes. And also i had owned most of the games on my gb when i was young, but unfortunately my game boy was broken and i was too old to buy old toys, but now all these are memories, good old memories... So i want to live the experience again, without paying sth i had bought...
