I'm not sure if The Gadget Show's Jon Bentley has been watching my Phones Show, but in his own video review (embedded below in HQ) of the Nokia N97, he seems to have picked up on many of the same complaints, including the diminutive keyboard and the still immature S60 5th Edition interface. Yet, overall, he concludes it's still "one of the best phones you can buy". I'd concur, with the rider that Nokia need to get cracking on firmware updates and that the 'b' in 'Buy' is in capitals - £500 is still a sizeable sum!

He seems to be on a caffeine high, either that or the phone gets him very excited!
I like the N97, but I'm still wary of the Touchscreen. Apple and other companies have developed theirs over time, and I think S5 is still in it's infancy. I may go for the N86 instead to replace my trusty Classic N95
I love the gadget show - these people are usually bang on and in this case I agree. The N97 is a cracking Nokia but after now spending some time with it - a friends' unit - I have to say there are some real weaknesses and the OS really does need some more work to make it more intuitive as well as a more refined look and feel treatment.
As to the price - hmm a tricky one. I don't think the price is too much for the phone SIM free BUT it is not cheap and certainly not a 'bargain' which I think the 5800 is at 249.
"The N97 is a steaming pile of s**t"
This is a quote from a Nokia employee... A name you would be very familiar with mr Litchfield.
well, having spent some time with the n97, i have to agree that there are some software fixes that need to be done in the next firmware. (which hopefully will be in the next month) but there are quite a few good tweeks they've done to the os already. cant wait to see what they're gona do with it next.
The iPlayer is included on the N97.

Well he does say that he has a pre-production model.
Wish list for next firmware update.
Video/Camera:
Image Stabilisation in video mode. (Unless its hidden someplace?)
More quality options in video mode.
Touch focus point adjustment.
Better control over focus.
MUCH better low-light(night) capability. (my 2 year old N95 smokes the N97 in low-light recording)
[Suggestion]
What I'd like is an after-market xenon kit that you can attach to the phone - with interface to a control to either the USB or the 3.5mm jack. So when you press the shutter - it signals the flash device to fire.
Touch Screen:
Much more control over sensitivity.
Better response.
Double Tap enlarge + MULTI TOUCH (lets face it touch.. scroll some sizing display is hopeless)
SymSMB (wifi file/folder sharing) .. or include it as part of PC Suite - heck I wouldn't mind paying for a "pro" version.
I'm sure theres more but I'll limit it to those for now.
@seki
you do release that about half of your list isnt even possible with a firmware upgrade....? lol
anyway, i'm still going for the n97, it's just damn sexy
