You allready used the "Nokia employees think that N97 is pile of shit", so you are kind of contradicting yourself.

The guy with the glasses is recommending the n96 over the n97, saying that its more mature and that it runs better. He also states that the build quality is better.

Hey, "guy with glasses" you've just lost all of your credibility. Sorry mate.

What is wrong with u? The guy was just stating his personal experience which I, and I'm sure quite a few others, appreciate. It helps us to make an informed decision on wether or not 2 purchase the phone. I myself am not too thrilled about the phone but collosal failure? U dont like people 2 call any1 who critizes Nokia as Apple fanboy yet u have no qualms calling some1 who likes the N97 a Nokia employee. What gives u the right? Last week u called Steve 'unprofesional' coz he asked every1 2 shut up. Problem is the single line u quoted him from didn't represent the whole picture of what he actually meant.. A bit like CNN (the COMPLETE NONSENSE NETWORK) coming out with a picture of a police officer with a baton in hand helping up a fallen senior citizen and screaming 'POLICE BRUTALITY'. Who's unprofessional there? And u think the AAS is only for the power users? Unbelievable! AAS has been very helpful 2 newcomers to S60 with excellent articles and tutorials. Here's hoping for more..

For me, the N97 is a failure, not because of the screen or even the keyboard, which does suck compared to my E90. No, it's a failure because the the processor and RAM are a joke. I'm as big a Symbian fan as any, but the iPhone 3GS and Pre processors MOP THE FLOOR with what the N97 is packing. Some 40mb of usable RAM? Are you kidding me Nokia? My two year old E90 has double that amount. It also has 3D acceleration, which the N97 does not. I guess games are out then, huh? Not enough RAM, not enough processor.

Why is the Samsung Omnia HD TWICE as powerful as the N97?

well this N97 causes extreme views but that is a lot better than the last flagship, the n96 just got a lot of hate.

personally, the n97 seems closer to my needs than the iphone or i8910. some E series seem tempting for the price, better cameras please (E72?), as does the 5800. and nokia still has the best selection of phones to choose from.

UI confusion, not if you ever used a nokia before. I find blackberrys confusing but I'm sure I'd learn the UI in about 5 minutes. oh, and on my computer (a mac) I drag down to go up. so confusing, not.

cheers,

Perhaps Nokia put a slower processor in / didn't include a 3D accelerator to preserve battery life?

The RAM is clearly a cost saving exercise, but I'm not really having a problem running out of RAM, so I can't see a problem myself.

Oh yeah, and you forgot to mention the 32Gb of onboard storage for videos, music, app, etc...

The principle here is called appropriation: the emphasis on the tools one uses to construct one's social reality.

Sloppy thinking stands out a mile, particularly if you use long words to express your sloppiness.

Why does it need more RAM? Symbian uses RAM efficiently compared to other OS. It simply doesn't need it. It's not a Windows PC.

And as for graphics accelerator. If you want games buy a DS. Again, most N97 customers won't need a strong games capability to they can be anti-social and spend their lives exercisiing their thumbs. First thing I do with any phone is remove the games.

This is the blind focus on specification problem Nokia are up against. It's almost worthwhile them adding in another pile of RAM that the OS will never use just to please the ignorant spec readers.

The critic definitely wins this one. Having used one, the N97 keyboard and widgets are nasty, the screen is not good enough for 2009.

Hoodie bloke: "I thought I was going to be so let down by this"

Not credible. Once a fanboy, always a fanboy.

Listen again, Ben - aka 'the guy with glasses' - is actually recommending the N86. Not the N96.

We might disagree on a few things but he's not an imbecile.

Well, the Nokia apologists are certainly out in force! RAM sucks? Who needs it? The N97 clearly has "enough". Until you start getting those "out of memory" errors that my old E61 got constantly. My E90 has never run out of memory. Why even load programs if I can only run a couple at once? Who cares about how much storage there is?

Games? Who needs em? Clearly no one has ever played a game on Symbian, and anyone who has must be a total loser with no friends. Please. The hardware in the N97 sucks, there's no getting around that by apologizing for Nokia. Try running Quake 2 on a Nintendo DS, let me know how that works out for you. For that matter, try running it on the N97.

Have you used an N97 and received an "out of memory" message?

Do you even have an N97?

Unregistered wrote:also what happened to 'mark several'. i mean after the pencil key was removed from pretty much every recent nokia phone, i can only select one item at a time or select all. believe me this is extremely annoying and i get a huge migraine whenever i want to delete several songs or several messages from my phone without a computer (this is supposed to be a multimedia computer for Pete's sake!). i have to do three things just to select one item - options->mark/unmark->mark or mark several - and if there are several items i have to do that for each item or else just delete everything :grrrr:. come on nokia how about enabling a check box so i can select exactly what i want to delete or move or copy or whatever without spending the whole day trying to delete 37 messages.

Press the # key the check on/off items individually. If you want to rapidly check on/off individual items hold down the # key while pressing the d pad up or down.

have been PDA phone user for past 6 years. Used the n97 for 4 days now and just sold it.

conclusion:

If you are an advance PDA phone user, forget N97. The hype about this phone is because they have never made a good PDA features rich type sort of smartphone. They dont understand how people like us who swear by our smartphones think and expect.

For those who have been a nokia candybar conventional phone users, this is a nice upgrade of course.

i am talking about the N97 or the 5800 specifically, there is no way to 'mark several' using the touchscreen alone and if there is please enlighten me 'cos i can't find it. nokia should have added an option to put checkboxes when u want to select several items.
