Slightly off topic, in that the main device covered isn't powered by Symbian OS, but The Phones Show 85, now online, should be required watching for any smartphone fan in that James Burland demonstrates somewhat emphatically the huge graphical processing power inside the Apple iPhone 3GS. Yes, yes, we know that Nokia for one have chosen not to go down this route, so consider this a look at what might have been if the N95 had been a taste of things to come in the S60 world...

That's a good review. I really like the iphone interface and the graphical power is amazing. I would like to see a similar update to the ipod touch appear as well.
The camera looks great and it demonstrates how far we've some since the days of the first 3mp cameras, but the lack of flash IS a disappointment.
Apple have got it right this year I think with a balance between hardware and software. They can't lose software wise, as it's specifically designed for the phone and works brilliantly.
The graphics power is truly impressive (although a part of it is demonstrated by through ultimatately useless 3D map spinning :P ). Games are just from a completely different league compared to any other phone out there, obviously.
"useless 3D map spinning" - I just thought it would be a nice way of showing the power of the GPU without immediately resorting to gaming. ^_^ Plus it's a good demo of multi-touch. Thanks for your comments guys. Really appreciate the feedback.
Loved it. The video seems really nice. If Nokia doesn't buckup soon, the next generation I-phone I will seriously consider buying.
Wow i gotta admit that iphone is pretty impressive. I don't know what is taking nokia so long to come up with something even half as pretty. I'm sticking with my 5800 rather than upgrading to an n97 because i'm not going to reward nokia with my money if they are gonna sit back and do nothing. Its been 2 years since nokia released those next generation videos of what was to come, and it looked so good with the touch interface. And we all thought thats what via n97 would be. What have they been doing the last 2 years?! Symbian foundation is only NOW just barely getting going. Wtf have then been doing?
Unfortunately, Apple's itunes and o2's exclusive rights to the device totally puts me off buying one. Even if the next generation has a better screen and xenon flash and a qwerty keyboard, I still wouldnt get one. Plus Apple's range of media players fall well short in the sound dept (or they at least did with the touch). I'll stick with my Walkman for mp3 thanks 😉
When are apple going to do the nano phone? Until they do the iPhone is ultimately flawed because it's just not conveniently portable. Why are we going backwards to big?
I have to admit, when I received my N97 on an upgrade, I was so unimpressed that I sent it back. Now have an iPhone3Gs (please dont stone me), and I`m loving it. I was really hoping for the N97 to blow the iphone away too. Shame.
I've had the N97 for a demo, but I was not impressed at all. The phone seems slow and not so responsive. When Apple would come with a decent Office suite then I'm in.
And that's Nokia to blame for
Your video hands-on of the iPhone 3GS convinced me! I'm definitely getting this phone. And for the office suite I'll buy Quickoffice.
